José María Peiró conferred Honoris Causa Doctorate by the University of Almería

The emeritus Professor of the Universitat de València José María Peiró will be awarded the Honoris Causa Doctorate on Friday, 7 June by the University of Almería. The event will take place at 7:00pm at the Paraninfo (Main hall) of the Andalusian university. Full University Professor of Social Psychology, Peiró was Principal of the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy of the Universitat de València from 1993 to 1999.

The Senate of the Universidad de Almería unanimously approved Peiró’s investiture for ‘his relevant research in areas of knowledge such as behavioural sciences and psychology, with his active and fruitful collaboration and association’ with the Andalusian university. The laudatio speech will be delivered by Full Professor of Social Psychology Miguel Ángel Mañas Rodríguez.

José María Peíro (born in Torrent, 1950) chaired the Red Europea de Catedráticos de Psicología de las Organizaciones (ENOP: European Network of Full Professors of Organisational Psychology) and the International Association of Applied Psychology, as well as the European Federation of Work and Organizational Psychology. He led several research projects funded by the Spanish National Commission of Science and Technology, the European Union Research Framework Programme and Climate KIC of the European Institute of Technology.

Peiró has researched on topics such as work stress and occupational health, organisational climate and culture, socialisation of young people in organisation, labour market insertion of young people, and well-being and performance at work.

He holds a degree and a doctorate in philosophy and literature (Universitat de València 1975), and a degree in psychology (Complutense University of Madrid, 1976).

He has written several books on topics related to work and organisations. He was Principal of the Faculty of Psychology of the Universitat de València (1993-1999), Head of the Department of Psychobiology and Social Psychology of the UV (2002-2003), Head of the Department of Basic Psychology, Methodology, Psychobiology and Social Psychology of the UV (1986-1993) and Head of the Department of General Psychology (1983-1986).

In 2017, he received the Honoris Causa Doctorate from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.
