José María Peiró receives the SIOP award for his contribution to the teaching of Psychology

José María Peiró, Professor of Psychology at the Universitat de València, has received the Distinguished Teaching Contribution Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) in the United States. SIOP has just presented its Distinguished Awards at the 2022 Annual Conference. These annual awards have been honouring the work of professionals in Work and Organisational Psychology for 40 years and this is the first time that the award has been given to a non-US national. José María Peiró received the award for his contribution to the teaching of this branch of psychology.

The awards ceremony took place on April the 27th in Seattle (USA). One day later, on the 28th, at the same congress, José María Peiró presented his lecture ‘Teaching and Learning in Work and Organisational Psychology: Achievements, challenges and opportunities’ in which he explained his contributions to teaching. Peiró, who has supervised more than 60 doctoral theses throughout his career, receives this award for his outstanding teaching work in tutoring and training future psychologists of Work and Organisations. In addition, his role as a populariser is recognised by his numerous publications aimed at increasing the understanding of psychology worldwide. The SIOP has also valued his work as the driving force behind the European Master’s Degree in Research in Work and Organisational Psychology and the Erasmus Mundus Master’s Degree in Work, Organisational and Personnel Psychology. His work as president of the European Association for Work and Organisational Psychology and International Association for Applied Psychology, where he developed the connection between SIOP, EAWOP and IAAP that became the Alliance for Organisational Psychology, has also been esteemed.

José María Peiró is Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology at the Universitat de València, researcher at the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie), founding director of the University Research Institute (IDOCAL), among other titles he holds.
