The Universitat de València celebrates the academic excellence in the investiture of 64 new doctors

The solemn act recognises the effort and research calling of the doctors of the 2023-2024 academic year, in a ceremony charged with symbolism and emotion

The Universitat de València celebrated in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology the first of the two Bestowal Ceremonies of the new doctors of the 2023-2024 academic year.

In this second act, celebrated on Friday, 18 June, there were a total of 64 named doctors from the faculties of Nursing and Podiatry; Social Sciences; Physical Activity and Sport Sciences; Biological Sciences; Philology, Translation and Communication; Pharmacy and Food Sciences; Teacher Training; Psychology and Logopedia; Geography and History; Physiotherapy; and the School Of Engineering.

Last Friday, 11 had place the first Bestowal Ceremony of new doctors. In total, 200 doctors have been named in representation of the more than 551 graduates with the doctorate title last year, which represents the 40% of the total.

The act has followed the traditional academic ceremony, where doctors members of the university community have worn their traditional academic clothing with the corresponding colours.

The new doctors went one by one to receive from the Dean of the Universitat de València, M. Vicenta Mestre, the symbols of the doctorate degree: the white gloves, symbol of purity in the exercise of the academic activity; the laureate biretta with the corresponding colour of the scientific field they have obtained their doctorate degree.

According to this traditional ceremonial, the academic processions were formed by the new doctors, university professors, members of the Governing Council and of the Universitat de València and the university choir interpreted Veni Creator and, at the end of the act, Gaudeamus Igitur, piece with which the ceremony was closed.

The event was presided over by the Principal of the Universitat de València, M. Vicenta Mestre, the General Secretary, M. Elena Olmos; the director of the Doctoral School, M. Amparo Tórtola; the Vice-Principal for Studies, Isabel Vázquez, the Vice-principal for Research, Carlos Hermenegildo, and the Regional Secretary for Universities, M. Esther Gómez.
