This Monday Esteban Morcillo, principal of the Universitat de València, has signed the ‘Pacte Valencià contra la Violència de Gènere i Masclista’ (Valencian Agreement against Gender Violence and Violence against Women). It is motivated by the Vice presidency and the Department for Equality and Inclusive Policies and it counts on the support of the political and civil Valencian society. The vice-principal for Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño as well as some representatives of the Equality Unit of the Universitat have attended the ceremony. A web page has been prepared in order to inform about the agreement

The agreement has been signed by representatives from 63 institutions, political parties, associations and social and civil organisations from the Valencian Community. The document gathers the proposals suggested by the signatories and it has a common objective: to emphasise that any way of mistreatment against women must be considered a public and social conflict, which exceeds the domestic scope.

The Agreement aims to be an institutional and social commitment which establishes the inequality problem as a structural and social one, as the feminist movement claims. It is also expected to assume the fight under shared management and through shared commitments.

This commitment means that some measures like providing equal assistance for women who are victims of terrorisms must be introduced. This implies that the financial assistance will increase from 6.000 to 75.000 euros within a year. There are other objectives like are ensuring a free and secure society against gender violence or feminising the society as well as coordinating the networking for the care of female victims of sexism and their sons and daughters. The agreement gathers a budgetary increase of 10 per cent of the policies aimed to combat this type of violence. In this sense, and gathering the feminist organisations’ requests, the budget of the Vice presidency and the Department for Equality and Inclusive Policies will rise until 12 million euros. Other departments will develop initiatives to fight this type of violence as well as the situations that contribute to their appearance.

Thus, the Consell assumes gender-specific mandatory training of people working in the public sphere and the promotion of training for other professionals involved in care for women victims of gender violence and their sons and daughters.

Other commitment of the Valencian Government is to ensure a responsible and public hiring and to promote the corporate social responsibility with companies that have equality plans, social clauses to combat the feminisation of impoverishment and plans to reintegrate women victims of gender violence

The Agreement is divided in 5 strategic plans: To guarantee a safe society free of violence against women; to coordinate the networking to assist women and children who are victims of gender violence or violence against women; to break down the walls that make the gender violence and the violence against women invisible and to socialise it as a policital and social problem; to guarantee a stable budget allocation to develop and implement the objectives.

Vice presidency has developed a web page https://www.sumatalpacte.com/va/ in which is possible to find more information about the agreement. All the people or organisations interested can take part in this project. Besides, the agreement is becoming popular thanks to the hashtag #SumatAlPacte.
