Universitat de València La Nau Cultural Centre opens the exhibition ‘Las cubiertas de 21veintúnversos: diez años de poesía y arte’ (‘The covers of 21veintúnversos: ten years of poetry and art’) on 21 October at 6:00 p.m., to commemorate the 10 year long career of Banda Legendaria, the poetry and art editorial founded in València by Juan Pablo Zapater and Víctor Segrelles, who are also curators of this exhibition.

The exhibition focuses on the most representative publication of the editorial, the poetry magazine 21veintiúnversos, gathers thirteen original pieces for its covers by renowned artists like Jordi Teixidor, Carmen Calvo, Dis Berlin, Miquel Navarro, G. Peyró Roggen, Pamen Pereira, Antonio Rojas, Martí Quinto, Arancha Goyeneche, Joël Mestre, Isabel Oliver, Zimo amigó and Manuel Sáez.
These pieces mark the way throughout different tendencies of contemporary Spanish art of the last decades and highlight the constant dialogue between poetry and plastic arts that is signature to this editorial project. The reproduction of those Valencian editorial works was made for the magazine sponsors, with copies resting in the display cabinet.
Along with the magazine, Banda Legendaria has published several inedited books of poems by contemporary authors of their Cuadernos and Plaquettes collections, that have become a reference in independent poetry edition.
During the exhibition, Universitat de València Aula de Poesia, directed by poet and full-time university professor Xelo Candel will organise poetry reading and activities revolving around the creative world of 21veintiúnversos. The exhibition is open until 30 November.
A poetry and art reference in the Spanish cultural scene
Banda Legendaria was founded in 2015 and has become one of the most singular poetry editorial of the Spanish cultural scene. Its magazine 21veintiúnversos was born as an independent platform to help relevant and promising voices of contemporary poetry reach higher goals.
For its thirteen numbers, it has collected inedited poems by authors of diverse generations, styles and languages as well as has paid tribute to one late poet on each number by retrieving inedited texts of names such as César Simón, Ángel González, Francisca Aguirre or Blas de Otero.
Each number also includes an original piece specifically created for the cover by a guest artist as a signature touch of the publication to turn it into a poetic and artistic reference.
Thanks to the support of microfunding campaign, 21veintiúnversos has mantained a stern independent calling, with carefully published contents and designs that put it among the most respected magazines in the country.
