The Faculty of Social Sciences held its Employment Forum this Monday, 29 January. It was organised by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Lifelong Learning, Educational Transformation and Employment, through the UVjob service. It is the first event of the second term with these employment fairs, bringing together more than 300 students and up to 37 companies and entities, including public and private organisations, professional associations, research chairs, foundations, NGOs and trade unions.

The day's academic sessions had the new labour framework of the 21st century as a cross-cutting topic. At 9:00 the Forum opened its doors and the lectures, panel discussions and workshops began, while companies and organisations set up their stands outside the centre. The morning began in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty with the opening conference "The occupation of the 21st century and working time", given by the Full University Professor of Labour Law and Social Security of the Universitat de València, Mª Amparo Ballester. The students of the different degrees of the centre were able to follow this conference online from different classrooms and spaces of the Faculty.

Afterwards, representatives of the professional associations in the field (Graduates in Social Sciences, Social Work and Political Science and Sociology of the Valencian Community) gave lectures to the students on the professional reality of their degrees. Then, several simultaneous panel discussions, formed by experts, debated the professional opportunities in the field of Social Sciences, Labour Relations and Human Resources and Sociology.

Quality training to create a more egalitarian and inclusive society

At the end, the principal of the Universitat de València, Maria Vicenta Mestre took the stage to officially open this event with the world of work, accompanied by the vice-principal for Lifelong Learning, Teaching Transformation and Employment, Ángeles Solanes, and the dean of the Faculty, Albert Moncusí.

After thanking the academic authorities, teaching staff, companies and organisations, UVjob service staff and, most especially, the student body for their presence and support, Mestre dedicated a few warm words to the dean's team of the Faculty, whose term of office ends this year. "Throughout these five years we have worked together in moments of great satisfaction and also in very difficult times", recalling the times of pandemic and valuing the "co-responsibility" of the entire university community. "It has been a special time and the relationship and the links we have created will remain forever," she added.

Likewise, the principal of the Universitat de València wanted to make a special mention to the 25th anniversary of the Faculty, which coincides with the celebration of the 625th anniversary of the UV.

Maria Vicente Mestre addressed her speech to the students of the Faculty, reminding them of their role in this type of meeting, while highlighting the importance and strength of the organisation of the UV Employment Forums "led by UVjob, with more than two decades of work, which are already a fully consolidated programme in our Universitat".

"It is very important that you know what you can look forward to and like on a professional level. You are lucky to be trained to work with people and for people, and you have in your hands the possibility of improving the quality of life of vulnerable groups", said Mestre, adding that "society needs you, in the present and also in the future, to achieve the inclusive and egalitarian society that we all want".

Mestre closed his speech by highlighting the quality of training at the UV. "The training mission of the Universitat is not complete if we do not accompany you until you enter the labour market, and you can be satisfied and convinced that you are very well trained and formatted, both theoretically and practically. You have the competences and skills necessary to face the decision of which job to choose".

At the end of the event, the principal visited the stands of the participating companies, accompanied by the Vice-principal for Lifelong Learning, Teaching Transformation and Employment, Ángeles Solanes; the dean's team of the Faculty; the manager of the General Foundation of the UV, Cristóbal Suria, and the delegate of the principal for Internships and Employment, Jesús Soret.

The Forum activities, also in the afternoon

The Social Sciences Forum continued in the afternoon, starting with a workshop by UVjob technical staff on the search for employment in the 4.0 environment and a conference by “Labora” on work in the public and private sector in the Social Sciences. The day ended with a session dedicated to the professional opportunities of official master's degrees and doctorates.
