The new Governing Council of the Universitat de València takes office

The General Secretary, the Vice-principals, and the Principal's delegate for students have taken office at an institutional ceremony held in the Paraninfo (Main Hall) and attended by representatives of the different groups and centres of the Universitat de València.

The Main Hall of the Universitat de València hosted the investiture of the new Executive Council of the Universitat de València on Tuesday 5th April. A team made up of 8 women and 7 men, including the general secretary, the general manager and the Principal's delegate for students.

At the ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the different groups of the university community, deans, directors and members of the statutory bodies and representatives of the trade union sections, the new vice-principals, as well as the general secretary and the Principal's delegate for students, signed the inauguration in the book of senior officials of the Universitat de València.

The general manager, Juan Vicente Climent, in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law on Universities and the regulations governing the Valencian Government and the Universitat, has not taken up his post, given that his appointment was made by agreement of the Principal and the Board of Trustees.

Thus, the Executive Council of the Universitat de València has been formed as follows: M. Elena Olmos, General Secretart; Isabel Vázquez, Vice-principal for Studies; Ernest Cano, Vice-principal for Academic Organisation and Teaching Staff; Ángeles Solanes, Vice-principal for Teaching Transformation and Lifelong Learning; Adela Valero, Vice-principal for Employment and Entrepreneurship; Carlos Hermenegildo, Vice-principal for Research; Rosa Donat, Vice-principal for Innovation and Transfer; Ester Alba, Vice-principal for Culture and Society; Carles Padilla, Vice-principal for Internationalisation and Multilingualism; Joaquín Aldás, Vice-principal for Planning, Quality and Information Technologies; Justo Herrera, Vice-principal for Economics and Infrastructure; Pilar Serra, Vice-principal for Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Living; Helena Rausell, Vice-principal for Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies; and Manuel González, the Principal's Delegate for Students.

 

Before the start of the event, a minute of silence was held in memory of the victims of gender-based violence, particularly the child murdered by his father in Sueca, and against male violence, in the context of the call made by the Governing Council to the university community, in line with the call made by the Generalitat Council.

In her speech, the Principal thanked the dedication of the Executive Council that has accompanied her throughout these past four years, and highlighted the main features of the composition of the new Executive Council, configured to respond to the challenges of the institution for the next four years, combining experience and youth, coming from different campuses and centres of the Universitat as well as different positions in the academic career.

Principal Mª Vicenta Mestre also thanked the commitment and dedication of all the people who occupy representative and management positions at the Universitat de València, making multilevel governance possible in accordance with the provisions of our regulatory framework as a democratic and participatory university.

Finally, the Principal reaffirmed her commitment to co-governance based on the motto of her election campaign: “talk, work and move forward” to continue working “for a fairer, more advanced and developed society, more educated, with higher freedom and well-being levels [...] based on the hope of a better world, in a more sustainable, egalitarian, healthy and inclusive future”.
