Ordinary session of the University Senate of the Universitat de València

The University Senate reunited this Wednesday, 26 February to receive the Report of the Office of the Public Prosecutor for Grievances and the Report of the Principal, as well as to choose the members of various collegiate bodies.

The Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has embraced this Wednesday, 26 February in the meeting of the University Senate of the Universitat de València that, traditionally, takes places after the  first quadrimester call of exams.

On the agenda, the election of members od various collegiate bodies, the Report of the Principal and the Report of the Office of the Public Prosecutor od Grievances, corresponding to last academic course 2023-2024.

After approving the minutes of the past session, the University Senate has done the election of members of various collegiate bodies.

Thus, attending the candidatures presented and the results of the votings, the elected members are:

Zaira Torres Romero, representing the Researcher in Personal Formation (PIF) and Joan Úbeda Gironés, student of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry, have been incorporated to he Governing Council of the University of Valencia. Also Zaira Torres, has been incorporated to the Statutes Commission with Gonzalo Prats Santori, student of the Faculty of Economics.

Likewise, the University Senate has confirmed the proposal of the Office of the Public Prosecutor for Grievances so that Carmen Sánchez Cebriá, Technical, Management, Administration and Service Staff (PTGAS-PI) was named as vice-representative.

Hereafter, the Principal of the Universitat de València, Maria Vicenta Mestre has given the University Senate her report in which it has been done a review of the most highlighted actions that have been done in the university. In this sense, she has informed about the performances that were done around the DANA, milestone that has marked the politics carried out in the last months, she has also informed of the policy of PDI and PTGAS that is carrying out by the UV, and the supportive actions that the Universitat has done surrounding the Gaza war.

When the Principal’s report was finished, it was the turn of Belén Cardona, present administrative of Grievances, that in accordance with the articles 237 of the Statutes of the Universitat de València and 11 of the Regulations on the Organisation and Functioning of the University Ombuds Office is the administration’s function “present the senate, each academic course, a report of its activity”. In her intervention she has informed the senate about the performances that the syndicate had carried out.

The last point of business has been the open round of talks, when various members of the university community had wanted to talk and express their proposals about various university policy topics.

Thus, Joan Úbeda, new member of the elected Government Council has thanked the support received during the vote. Moreover, he has wanted to recall the times we are living in, the challenges and opportunities. Times in which the university “has to maintain its firm defense of the language, culture and our roots, and that the students association SAÓ will fight tirelessly so that the Universitat will be a place of inclusion and respect”.

Josep Vicente Salas, member of the Computer Service of the Universitat de València, has forwarded the request that the university join the rest of organizations that make public the Civil service entrance examination, to increase the transparency and facilitate the preparation to the tests. All this, un a moment in which is foreseen that the number of calls increase due to the retirements that are taking place between the PTGAS.

The student Laura Nebot, coordinator of the The Student Council has translated the complaints of the students of the Ontinyent Campus about the failures in the services of cafeteria, public transport, the realization of anatomy internship and teacher vacancies that are not covered.

The student Maria de las Virtudes, has thanked the Universitat for its positioning around the vote in the educative area about the teaching in Valencian language and invites them to maintain that firmness and leader position in the recognition and defense of the Valencian culture and language.

Lastly, the professor Antoni Merelles of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry, has moved the contradictions that the demands place on him about more places of private parking on the campus, instead of the improvement of the public transport. In addition, he has also wanted to put in value the effort that has been done in the Universitat, but specially in his centre, so that the DANA did not prevent students from doing their internship in hospitals.
