On the 10th of May, the Paraninf of the Universitat de València hosted the first debate of the municipal elections for Valencia’s city hall organized by Cadena SER. The Audiovisual Workshop (TAU) of the Universitat de València was displayed the video signal and the audio was output by Cadena SER.

In the historic Paraninf of the Universitat de València have debated, moderated by the territorial director of the Cadena SER for the Valencian Community, Bernardo Guzmán, the candidates for mayor in the Valencian capital Joan Ribó, in Compromís, Mª José Catalá, People’s party, Fernando Giner, in Citizens, Sandra Gómez in PSPV-PSOE and María Oliver in United Left of the Valencian Country.

The debate counted with a significant representation of the political world, the organisations and social movements and of syndicates. All of them were welcomed in the cloister of the Universitat, in the historic building of La Nau Street, by the Principal Mª Vicenta Mestre.

The Principal has reminded that the Universitat de València was founded by the Jurats de la ciutat de València, the equivalent in the current city hall, in 1499, this year it is its 520 anniversary. Since it opened its doors as Estudi General, la Universitat de València has remained as the same emblematic Renaissance space which has been modified over time in order to adapt itself to the new demands of the university community and society. Thus, 20 years ago the building was reopened, converted into a Cultural Centre, belonging to the historical library, the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport and the Equality Unit.

Nowadays, La Nau Cultural Centre is a space for culture and arts where numerous debates take place on the most current issues, as is the case of the elections that will decide the future municipal government.

As in previous electoral processes, the first debate of the electoral campaign took place in La Nau, organised and produced by the radio network Cadena SER, while the Universitat de València was responsible for structuring the space to adapt the Paraninf to an authentic television set from which the broadcast of Cadena SER was made with a signal produced by the Audiovisual Workshop (TAU) of the Universitat de València.

TAU, and specifically its Studio 1, located in the Tarongers Campus, was the space that hosted the debate of the last municipal elections, in a format similar to that of this year.
