Tomorrow, 30 May at 19:30h, the professor of Political Science Ignacio Sánchez will visit the Cultural Centre La Nau to give the conference “The democracy in crisis”. It will close the series of debates organised by Amics de La Nau Gran on the occasion of the celebration of its 10th anniversary.

The professor will analyse the changes that the democratic form of government has been undergoing in recent times. The main threat is the reduction of democracy to alternation of power, leaving aside the ideal of collective self-government. This reduction is expressed in the expansion of technocratic elements (and the counter-figure they generate, populism), which crush the possibility of choosing among alternative models of society.

Ignacio Sánchez-Cuenca (Valencia, 1966) is reader in Political Science at the Carlos III University of Madrid and director of the Carlos III- Juan March Institute of Social Sciences of this university. Before, he was professor in the Complutense University of Madrid, in Universidad Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona and in the University of Salamanca. In 2004 was Rice Visiting Associate Professor in the University of Yale and is author of many books. Currently, he writes in InfoLibre and the digital journal CTXT.

This conference is part of the cycle of activities that the association Amics de La Nau Gran has organised to celebrate its 10th anniversary. From January to June, the association with more than 1,500 people, organised a wide range of events open to the general public, including round tables, exhibitions, conferences, concerts and theatre in different areas of the city.
