Magazines, conferences, meetings, reading clubs... are some of the initiatives that have been presented to the Out of class aid this year, a call aimed at students of the University of Valencia that provides financial support and advice for the realisation of socio-cultural activities. In the first application period of the 2022-2023 academic year, almost 24,000 euros have been distributed among the different projects selected. The second application period will open soon.

Applicants include both individual and group students as well as student groups and associations. And in all cases, they have a common goal: to carry out activities that interest them, aimed at the university community and, especially, at their classmates. The themes are of their choice and diverse: business ethics, equality, diversity, literature, student participation, etc.

For example, the student Andrea Ruiz, member of the Sot a Terra collective, has proposed the celebration of a congress entitled A transversal view of nightlife with a gender perspective, which seeks to generate a meeting space for "reflection on the risks and pleasures associated with nightlife", which contemplates the analysis of the use and consumption of substances, sexuality, music, etc. from different fields such as the sociology of culture, psychology or social work, always bearing in mind "the gender perspective".

Another project that can be highlighted is Human Flourishing: Diversity is Wealth, presented by the Collective of Students for the Faculty of Ethical Economics (CEFDEE), which has obtained the maximum amount contemplated in the competition, that is 2,500 euros, thanks to the score obtained. This project includes the development of the Ethics Week and a contest of video clips on business ethics that will focus on diversity as a source of wealth in the company and where aspects such as the incorporation of people with special needs in the workplace, the glass roof for female talent or the challenges of the LGTBIQ+ collective will be addressed.

They have also obtained the maximum amount per project: the XIII Congress of Pharmacy Students of the UV, presented by the Student Association of Young Pharmacists of Valencia; the XI Congress of Biomedical Research (CIB 2023); and the VI Conference on Sport Management: Technology applied to Sport, organised by the Collective of Graduate Students Specialists in the Management and Direction of Physical Activity and Sport.

Finally, the following projects have obtained funding in this period of application for Fora de classe support: A dos Voces Reading Club, the Valencian poetry magazine Vale/15, the magazine Impasible, the magazine Oblivious, the III Conferences on LGTBI+ Research, the project La larga marcha hacia el corazón de la Antártida by Javier Cacho, and the program of activities of associations such as BEA, Saó and the Valencian Association of Medical Students (AVEM).

New application period in February

A new application period will be opened soon for the following the support out of class, for activities to be held from April 1 to October 31, 2023. This call is open to projects designed by UV students (individually, in groups of students or as an association or collective) whose main target audience must be the students of the University.

The Out of the class call for socio-cultural activities is an initiative of the Student Delegation that manages the  Sedi (Information and promotion service) which is committed to promoting student participation in the sociocultural programming of the University of Valencia. Therefore, students are invited to contribute proposals of their interest and to be directly involved in all phases of the organization of the activity and are provided with financial support and advice.
