Silver for the female basket team and fifth position for the male team in the beginning of the European University Championship

The Universitat de València has began with excellent results their participation in the European Universities Championships 2025. The female basket team has become runner-up of Europe and the male team has reached a prominent fifth position, consolidating this way the competitive level of Valencian university sport in the international field.
Runner-ups of Europe after a flawless trajectory
The female team of the UV signed an outstanding performance from the beginning of the tournament. In the group stage, they achieved an overwhelming victory against the Prague University of Economics and Business (78-35) and a tight triumph against the University of Bologna (69-67) which let them classify as first group.
In the quarter finals, it beat with clarity the University of Zagreb (78-62), and in semi-finals firmly imposed themselves once more, this type against the Grenoble Alpes (79-70). In the finals, done on 13 July, the Valencian team pit again against the University of Bologna. Despite showing determination and character, they weren’t able to repeat the result in the group stage and were beaten 66-90, obtaining the silver medal, after a high performance championship.
The male team, brilliant in the group stage and firm until the end
The male team also demonstrated an excellent competitive level. In the group stage, they achieved three consecutive victories: two intimidating ones against the Delft University of Technology (102-37) and the Norwegian UST (127-49), and a tighter third against the Politehnica University of Bucharest (74-71). These results put them in the highest rank of their group, with a points differential of +146.
In the quarter finals, the team sized each other up with the Polish Naval Academy in a really evenly-matched match that was resolved in the prorogue, beaten for the minimum (85-86), which took them out from the medals dispute. Despite this, the team was able to recover and won in the next two meetings to assure that fifth final position, leaving really good vibes in face of future competitions.
From UVesports we want to congratulate both teams for their undeniable clean performance representing the Universitat de València in this European championships of such a high level that are developed during the summer months. The UV will be represented in multiple disciplines, among them indoor football, orientation, handball, basket 3x3, volleyball, tennis, paddle, kickboxing or taekwondo.
