Student awarded Best Presentation in the national phase of the Va de Dades statistics competition of the UV

The student Yousra Saidi from IES Joan Fuster in Sueca was awarded in the national phase of the Incubator of Probes and Experiments mathematical competition held in Bilbao. The student received the award for Best Presentation for the defence of her project titled Reality in a Public High School: Gender Challenges in Mathematics… Do They Exist? (orig. Realidad en un instituto público: Los desafíos de género en matemáticas… ¿Existen?). The project was supervised by teacher Òscar Mascarell Claver from her high school.

Yousra Saidi represented the Valencian Community in the category for students of 3rd and 4th year of ESO and FPB in the national phase. The team comprised of Candela Pérez López, Alma Povea Díaz and María Bixquert Díaz and supervised by Lydia Moragón Fandos and Virginia Hidalgo Villanueva from IES Juan de Garay in Valencia also participated in the national phase in the category for Bachillerato and FPGM students with the project Study of the viability of developing an app for suicide prevention in adolescents (orig. Estudio de la viabilidad de la creación de una App para la prevención del suicidio en adolescentes).

Both teams were proclaimed winners of the second edition of the Va de Dades Valencian Statistics Competition for Data Science, which was held at the Universitat de València with the objective of encouraging data science and statistics. This contest is the Valencian phase of the national Incubator of Probes and Experiments competition, organised by the Statistics and Operations Research Society (SEIO).
