- July 18th, 2016

The 33th Universitat d’Estiu de Gandia, under the motto ‘Territorial organization. From local to global’, starts this Monday, 18 July, with an inaugural lecture by full university Professor of Human Geography in the Universitat de València Joan Romero. Titled ‘People first. New challenges for the cities and regions in the technological revolution era’, the lecture will take place at 8pm in Casa de Cultura Marqués de González de Quirós.
Joan Romero will focus on the new role that people and citizens play in the new political, social and economical panorama.
For his part, the director of Universitat d’Estiu, J. Emili Aura, has pointed out the importance of establishing a debate on sustainability and social economy under the motto of this year, and has reminded that: “Attention must not be deflected from the conflicts taking place in the last years in our surroundings, for instance, the drama of immigration and refugees in the Mediterranean Sea, or, more recently, the ‘Brexit’, given that they have consequences for the people”.
Regarding the training activities, the same dynamic than in previous years is kept, with twelve proposed courses on territories, institutions, development and health, and a similar number of participants than in other editions, totalling 400 registered students.
The most popular courses are the ones related to personal development and health, as well as territory and governance.
It is the case of courses such as the third one, ‘Democracy from the bottom: new agenda for the improvement and extension of the local governments’; or the sixteenth, ‘Neuro-happiness: psychobiology of emotions’, which have left no places available with 30 students registered in each.
In the field of leisure and culture, participants will be able to enjoy deeply rooted music and theatre. Within the activities of Les Nits, there is a change regarding the date of Pep El Botifarra and Miquel Gil’s ‘Nus’ performance, which is now taking place on Thursday 21 July; and Xaluq’s concert, who will perform on Friday 22 July.
