UV students Carmen Gray Puente, Susana Pérez Vázquez and César Fuster Llamazares each received one of the 100 grants awarded by the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation to carry out postgraduate studies abroad. In this 41st edition of the grant awards, 100 individuals were selected from 978 candidates based on their academic excellence. The selected individuals have been accepted to some of the best universities in the world.

In the case of the three students awarded the grant at the UV,  Carmen Gray will study Art at the University of London, Susana Pérez will study an Erasmus Mundus master in Warsaw, and César Fuster will study a doctoral programme in Political Science at Oxford University.

The event in which the grants were awarded took place on 12 July in Caixaforum Madrid with the attendance of the royal family, Nadia Calviño (first vice-president of the Government and minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation), Joan Subirats (Minister of Universities) and Juan José López Burniol (Vice-president of the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation).

The 100 grants were awarded for studies across four continents. 58 grants to study in Europe; 40 grants for North America; one grant to study in Asia; and one to study in Oceania.

The countries attracting the most scholarship holders are the United States (35) and the United Kingdom (34).

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Applications must pass the first phase of peer review by individuals in the field and the applications that receive the best marks are called for a personal interview. The selection phase involves university professors with international experience in this type of evaluation process.

Both the number of applications received and the rigour and high standards of the selection processes ensure that the selected candidates demonstrate outstanding levels of excellence. The effectiveness of this system is reflected in the fact that the 'la Caixa' Foundation grant winners were admitted to some the best universities in the world.
