53 - L'Espill

The 53rd issue of the magazine ‘L’Espill’, which is published by the UV, will be presented today Friday in the IVAM with a debate and a visit to the exhibition of Xavier Arenós, the artist to whom this issue is dedicated. The event will start at 18:00 with the visit to the exhibition ‘Xavier Arenós. La presència i l’absència’ (Xavier Arenós. The presence and the absence).

Then, it will be a round table with Antoni Furió and Gustau Muñoz (directors of the magazine), Manuel Guerrero (art critic and historian which works in the editorial department of L’Espill) and Xavier Arenós.

‘L’Espill’ (The mirror, in Valencian) is a magazine of contemporary thought founded by Joan Fuster in 1979. In its second period, as of 1999, it is published by the Universitat de València.

From the number 50 it includes a section about contemporary artists with some of their work and contextualization articles. Until now, dossiers about Perejaume, Joan Fontcuberta and Xavier Arenós have been published. Another dossier of the filmmaker Albert Serra is about to appear.

‘L’Espill’ presents panoramic views of culture of our time with a wide variety of interests and a critical orientation. It is a quadrimestral publication and this last issue, the 53rd, is mainly dedicated to the work of Xavier Arenós ‘Fragmentació dinàmica del búnquer d’Antónov-Ovséienko’ (Dynamic fragmentation of the búnker of Antónov-Ovséienko) together with articles of Manuel Guerrero and Josep Puigsech that frame and interpret the work and trajectory of this conceptual artist as well as the particular object of his research in this case. This is the bunker placed in the Soviet Union Consulate in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War.
