During the presentation, the books “Evidencias científicas, efectos, estrategias y políticas públicas sobre cambio climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico” (PUV) and “Cambio Climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico” (Tirant) have also been presented.
This morning, the Espai Vives of the Universitat de València has taken the official presentation of the new Chair for Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean, an academic initiative that wants to analyse and disseminate the effects of climate change about the Mediterranean territory, as well as proportionating useful tools for the public and social decision-making.
The act has also been useful to present two recent publications linked to the chair:
- Evidencias científicas, efectos, estrategias y políticas públicas sobre cambio climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico (PUV)
- Cambio Climático y territorio en el Mediterráneo Ibérico (Tirant lo Blanch Editorial)
Both works have been directed and coordinated by the full-time university professors Joan Romero and Ana Camarasa, and take the conclusions of the 1st Expert Conference about climate change and territory, celebrated on January of this year.
The presentation has been led by the full-time university professor of Human Geography Dolors Pitarch, who has underlined the importance of this chair as a reflective and action space before these environmental challenges. To continue, Luis Demano, illustrator, graphic designer, and artistic director of the works, in representation of the Associació de Professionals de la Il-lustració Valenciana has intervened. Demani has reclaimed the role of visual communication to make accessible the academic contents to society, and has reminded that in the project 14 illustrators have participated, with a designed typography by an affected creator by the DANA.
The emeritus full-time university professor Joan Romero, co-director of the chair, has expressed his pride on the leadership of the UV in social transformation through science. At the same time, he has reminded that “there is still a lot of pedagogy about climate change left, their consequences and the necessary actions to relieve it”.
For her part, Ana Camarasa, full-time university professor of Physical Geography, has pointed out how books result from the suggested reflection coming from the DANA which gravely affected the province of Valencia: “It hasn’t been until now, when consequences about climate change have struck us, that we have begun to be conscious on the gravity of the matter”.
The act concluded with the intervention of the Principal M. Vicenta Mestre, who has reaffirmed the compromise of the Universitat de València with science and knowledge transfer: “Only from knowledge we will be able to comprehend the challenges we are facing and provide real solutions”.
About the Chair
The Chair for Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean was created in 2025 by the Universitat de València, under the direction of Ana Camarasa and Joan Romero. The Chair is defined by three pillars: the firm compromise with scientific knowledge, social responsibility and institutional cooperation. Their main goal is to study the climate change impacts on the territory, people and Mediterranean economies, offering the administrations and social agents useful tools for the decision-making through studies, reports and risk cartographies.
Their thematic exes include:
- 🌊 The Mediterranean Sea and its ecosystems
- 🏞️ The territory and the derived affections of climate change
- ⚠️ The environmental risks associated to global changes
