Universitat de València hopes to improve their accounts in 2018, but it will continue with saving policies.

Universitat de València relies on a moderate improvement of their accounts in 2018 which will allow to increase its spending capacity. It has been achieved to stabilise the financial situation during 2017, but the institution will carry on its austerity policy and its energy and material saving programmes. The manager, Joan Oltra, presented on Tuesday the report about the financial situation until September 30 before the Governing Board.

This report explanis how the situation of the University regarding to economic aspects has been stabilised compared to 2016. “Throughout 2017 the treasury stimuli formulated by the European Central Bank have been maintained, and consequently the interest rates and the conditions of access to financing by public administrations have been similar to those of 2016." Joan Oltra has add: “ At the moment, we do not have any credit policy in banks and therefore we are not paying interest on this concept. Over the year we have had enough balance in banks to operate with normality and without anguishes”.

Currently, there is a arrear in the perception of ordinary subsides by the Valencian Government which is equivalent to two monthly payments.

With regard to income for 2018, it is expected a reduction in fees collection that will have to be compensated by an additional contribution of the Government. And on the other hand, a stabilization in the contributions of contracts, agreements and contributions of the various public administrations. The manager has pointed out: “we estimate an additional contribution in the budget of 2018 by the Government amounting to 15.3 million euros of the annuity of the 2008 agreement, with an increase of 10.8 million (15.3 in 2018 vs. 4.5 in 2017), which will increase our spending capacity ".

Anyway, the University will continue with saving programmes in energy, water, office supplies, initiated in previous year, reimbursement of expenses, computer material, services provided by companies... initiated in previous years.

Accounts stabilization has allow placing the period of payment of the obligations to third parties, on average, up to 36 days.

Institucional condolences

On the other hand, the principal has expressed the institutional condolenced in his report for the death of people linked to the Universitat de València. In this case, it is Javier Martí Cruz, from the secretary of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Inés Fernández Bas, section chief of the Support Unit for the Office of the Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation until 2010; and Manuel Montesinos Castro-Girona, professor of the Department of Anatomy and Human Embryology.
