Universitat de València welcomes new doctoral students

The welcome session brings together more than 300 doctoral students and highlights the diversity and breadth of the institution's doctoral offer.

The University de Valencia has held at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry the welcome session for new doctoral students of the academic year 2025/2026, with more than 300 people enrolled. In the event, organised by the Doctoral School, they have explained the main resources, services and opportunities that the institution offers to its 1,207 new doctoral students, outnumbering the 988 students of the previous year.

The Doctoral School has more than 4,812 enrolled students, of whom 2,672 are women and are 2,147 men. Regarding their origin, 73.8% are Spanish nationals, while 26.2% come from other countries, reflecting the program's international dimension. The University offers 60 doctoral programmes covering all branches of knowledge—Basic Sciences and Engineering, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities—with a total of 1,299 available places.  Of these programmes, 24 have allocated 100% of their offered positions.

In her speech, Principal M. Vicenta Mestre highlighted the importance of doctoral programme as a means of knowledge and innovation: ‘The doctoral programme is the ultimate academic and scientific expression of our university. We want that each doctoral student feels that is part of a community that works to transform society through research’.

On her behalf, the director of the Doctoral School, Mariam Tórtola, highlighted the integrating objective of the session: 'This event is the first step in accompanying you on a demanding but exciting journey. We want you to be aware of the resources, specializations/awards, and mobility opportunities, and to find a space of support and inspiration at the University of Valencia'.

The programme of the session included lectures about the industrial and international mentions, the RAPID platform to record activities, the cross-disciplinary training activities and the mentorship and dissemination initiatives. Moreover, three doctoral students share their experiences with entrepreneurship, dissemination and mentorship, providing a close look at the day-to-day life of the doctoral period.

The session finished with an institutional closure by Vice-Principal for Studies, Isabel Vázquez, reaffirming the commitment of the University of Valencia to research training and the international projection of its students.
