The Universitat de València has achieved an outstanding performance in the Spanish University Championships (CEUs) 2025 in the disciplines of wrestling and karate, held in Madrid. The UV teams have once again demonstrated their high competitive level, winning a total of 11 medals, as well as reaching the second position in the general classification by universities in karate.
Wrestling: three individual medals and bronze medals in teams
In wrestling, the Universitat de València has achieved an outstanding performance with three individual bronze medals and one more in the women's team classification.
This success has been possible thanks to the excellent participation of three students who have been able to combine their university studies with competitive sport with dedication. Alba Abellán, from the Philosophy degree, Raquel Ojeda, a Medicine student, and Cristina Torres, from the double degree in Business Administration and Law, have been the representatives who have climbed the podium, bringing an important recognition both individually and collectively.
Their effort has also been reflected in the team result, where the UV women's wrestling team has obtained a meritorious bronze medal, thus consolidating the presence of the University of Valencia among the best in the national university scene in this discipline.
Karate: eight individual medals and runner-up in the university category
In karate, the participation of the Universitat de València team was particularly outstanding, winning a total of eight medals in different categories.
In women's kata, María Sanfrancisco and Alba Ruiz reached the podium with bronze medals, reflecting the technical quality of the UV representatives in this discipline. In men's kumite, David Sanmartín won the silver medal in the -60 kg category, while Iván Ferrer won bronze in -84 kg. The women's kumite also brought very positive results: Paula Sigüenza won bronze in -50 kg, Insaf Bentama Serroukh was runner-up in -55 kg with a silver medal, and María Hidalgo completed the medal tally with a bronze in the -68 kg category.
This set of results allowed the Universitat de València to reach the silver medal in the general classification by universities, consolidating its position as a national reference in this discipline.
From the Universitat de València we congratulate all the participants for their dedication, effort and sportsmanship, and we reaffirm our commitment to university sport as a tool for the comprehensive training of our students.
