The Universitat de València has registered a considerable improvement in the Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10), dedicated to the reduction of inequalities, according to the 2025 edition of the THE University Impact Rankings, published this Wednesday. The Universitat de València climbs the ladder of this goal up to the 81st position, compared to the 95th rank achieved in 2024, which consolidates it as a role model in the promotion of equity and social inclusion.
The ranking, compiled by Times Higher Education, evaluates the performance of 2319 universities in the 17 SDG of the UN, among them the fight against poverty, gender equality, action for climate and quality education. This year, the Universitat de València had to compete with a greater number of international universities, since the 1963 of the 2024 year has increased to 2319 for this year’s edition. Nonetheless, the Universitat de València holds prominent positions in gender equality (SDG 5), for which it is positioned within the first 200 of the ranking, and in responsible production and consumption (SDG 12), as well as in non-polluting and affordable energy (SDG 7) and in the promotion of fair and peaceful societies (SDG 16).
These results consolidate the Universitat de València as one of the most committed universities to social and environmental challenges, as well as gender equality, and strengthens its international projection in sustainability and social responsibility.
In the scope of the Valencian Community, the Universitat de València maintains its position among the three best universities regarding social and environmental impact, maintaining a position within the top 15 of the Spanish universities. The improvement on the SDG 10 reflects the commitment of the Universitat de València to the reduction of inequalities and the construction of a fairer society.
The advancements in this key goal strengthen the UV international projection regarding inclusion and sustainability, and lays the challenge of improving in the rest of the SDGs for future editions of the ranking.
Methodology
To assign the points to each Sustainable Development Goal, THE Impact took three metrics into consideration. The ones related to research derive from data provided by Elsevier and refer to papers published between 2019 and 2023. The continuous metrics measure the contributions to the impact that fluctuates within a range and that are normalised depending on the size of the institution, and the evidence is from the real existence of justified programmes or activities, that are evaluated according to multiple criteria and are cross-validated in case of uncertainty.
