Five state Valencian universities present on Tuesday 26 of June at 7 p.m. the evaluation of the linguistic and cultural policy for the end of this term of office. The event will take place at the Centre Contemporary Culture Octubre. The Vice-principal of Studies and Linguistic Policy of the university, Isabel Vázquez, and the director of the Language Policy Service, Rafael Castelló, participate in the presentation alongside the representatives of the Jaume I University, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, the University of Alicante, the Universitat Politècnica de València and Acció Cultural de País Valencià (ACPV).

ACPV and the universities intend to present their evaluation. They outline that the task is not yet completed and that it must be specified: radio and TV emissions, the linguistic competency in the public administration, the cultural collaboration among territories and the special attention to the southern diversity.

The universities and ACPV have worked together since 2015 to design a proposal for the linguistic and cultural policy aiming to reach linguistic equality with the approval of the academics and society. In this sense, some concepts like “linguistic equality” are introduced for guaranteeing that the administrative personnel can speak both languages. The competence levels may vary depending on the position. The linguistic policy expects to remove language discrimination and promote the use of both languages in the administration so that they can help the citizens no matter the language they use. The objective is to remove the discrimination and the linguistic incompetence, as well as to guarantee the equality.
