The University celebrates LGTBIQA+ Pride Day with banners and a photo exhibition

The Universitat de València celebrates LGTBIQA+ International Pride Day by flying the rainbow flag until 30 June in the buildings of the Office of the Principal, Cultural Centre La Nau, Social Sciences Library, Sciences Library and the Ontinyent Campus.
As part of the programme of activities for Pride Month, the Universitat de València, through the diversitats initiative, is holding a photographic exhibition of LGTBIQA+ referents called Donant la cara. Un passeig per la diversitat (Showing face. A walk through diversity). The exhibition located in the building of the Office of the Principal, on the Blasco Ibáñez Campus, is open from 26 to 30 June.
The initiative commemorates the Stonewall Riot of 1969, when several protest movements took place in the United States in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, a bar in New York.
Traditionally, affective-sexual and gender diversity has been hidden, stigmatised or directly persecuted. One of the main catalysts that perpetuates these situations of discrimination is the silence surrounding these individuals who exist outside the "norm" and, especially, the absence of visible positive references, i.e. relevant LGTBIQA+ individuals who exemplify models of professionalism, excellence or simply stand out in their professions, as varied as those related to the world of science, arts, culture, etc.
With this exhibition, created by the Lambda collective, the Universitat de València and its diversitats initiative want to celebrate PRIDE DAY and express their commitment contintue building a diverse university defined by the respect and visibility of differences.
