The Universitat de València has presented on Wednesday 21 of February the documentary “Revelant Blasco Ibáñez” directed by José Ángel Montiel. The premiere took place at Joan Plaça auditorium at the Botanical Garden.

Revelant Blasco Ibáñez is a biographical documentary (52 minutes) that narrates the main events and achievements of this figure in his historical context. It also unveils unknown aspects of the writer and questions his essential motivations. Because... What was Blasco Ibáñez’s the purpose with his constant movement and proverbial strength? Was it to establish the Enlightenment values in Valencia? Maybe he aimed to achieve a political and social revolution? Did he want to enrich himself marvellously? Did he desire to acquire the literary glory of Cervantes, Victor Hugo, Zola and other great writers? Experiment with the technological advances and dominate the new forms of art and communication? Being the protagonist of a life worthy to appear in a novel and that would last in posterity? Achieving all of this at once or consecutively?  He said that when he was young he just wanted to be a sailor. Blasco Ibáñez was many things, but he was never a sailor.

The documentary counts with the intervention of recognized professors, experts and researchers such as Joan Oleza, Javier Varela, Emilio Sales, Ana María Martínez, Francesc Martínez, Antonio Laguna, José Antonio Piqueras, Rosa Ana Gutiérrez, Román Gubern or Javier Lluch-Prats. They explain their particular vision of Ibañez.

This UV project has been possible to undertake thanks to the collaboration of many people and institutions, particularly the cooperation of the Valencian Government and the Universidad Nacional del Mar del Plata. This dissemination and reflection initiative on the life of Blasco Ibáñez has been possible by means of the coordination and production of the Audio-visual Workshop of the Universitat de València.
