This is stated in the protocol of intentions signed this Friday, 28 February between the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), the City Council of Ontinyent, the Vall d'Albaida University Foundation and the Universitat de València. In the agreement, all the parts are committed in the implementation of the Degree of Veterinary in the capital of the Vall d’Albaida, where the Universitat de València has a university campus.
This way the proposal motivated by the UV more than fifteen years ago will become reality and it will become the only Valencian public university in teaching this degree, which, now, is only offered in one private university in the metropolitan area of València.
In this sense, the Principal, Maria Vicenta Mestre has remembered that the proposal counts with the Curriculum approved by the Government Council in 2010 and that could not be implemented because of lack of founding. Furthermore, she has recalled that “this project answers to the values of the Universitat, its public and private mission, to facilitate the access to a degree that, at the moment, is only taught in private centres or in other autonomous regions, with the detriment that entails for students and the society”.
Additionally, she has advanced that the project considers “very powerful infrastructures”, like a hospital, laboratories with cutting-edge equipment or a simulation centre, among others.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón has emphasized that the Generalitat earmark “around one million euros” in 2025 for the realization of this project “that will allow the academic, labour, attraction and talent retention development, as well as giving answer to the society demands”.
Similarly, has recalled that the project for the implementation of the degree go Veterinary in the Ontinyent Campus “is prepared” both in the technical development and academic, curricular and employability.
For his part, the mayor of Ontinyent, Jorge Rodríguez, has assured that with the signature of the protocol of intentions “today a dream comes true”, has he has thanked the Generalitat, “who has been involved since the beginning in this project with the five times centenary Universitat de València”. A project that, in the mayor’s words, “will strengthen the attraction and retention of talent in the central regions of the Valencian Community”.
