Last Friday, the closure of the 25th anniversary of the Ontinyent Campus included the presentation of a monograph for the ALBA Journal and gifts to teaching staff and students of its first promotion
On Friday, the top representatives of the Universitat de València, Ontinyent City Council and Caixa Ontinyent highlighted the joint effort ‘that has made the Ontinyent Campus what it is today.’ UV’s Principal Mavi Mestre, Mayor and President of the Campus Ontinyent Foundation Jorge Rodríguez and President of Caixa Ontinyent Josep Pla Barber agreed in their speeches at the closing ceremony of the 25th anniversary of UV’s Ontinyent Campus. The event was held in the campus courtyard and gathered tens of people linked to the university’s presence and impulse in the city. Many of them received a gift to commemorate the 25th anniversary.
Mavi Mestre also expressed that ‘this campus, as it is today, is the result of the work of many, but especially the leadership of the Mayor of Ontinyent. Thank you so much for always trusting the Universitat de València and for working closely with us to develop the campus. I would like to acknowledge your leadership and commitment.’ Jorge Rodríguez also thanked the work of Principal Mestre and her predecessor, Esteban Morcillo, and emphasised ‘the continuous work has been the result of the alignment between the Ontinyent City Council, the Universitat de València and Caixa Ontinyent. This synergy is an essential symbiosis to build such an ambitious project, of which we are proud and will continue to develop.’ President of Caixa Ontinyent Josep Pla Barber agreed, highlighting that ‘the campus is an example of joint effort, showing that sometimes dreams come true.’ He also recalled that he was one of the first teachers at the campus and that ‘we never would have thought that we would come this far.’
Among those who received gifts for the 25th anniversary were university authorities, Ontinyent’s official journalist, members of the university foundation, members of the advisory council of the City Council’s Publications Service, mayors and education councillors from the past 25 years, teaching staff and university students.
In addition to the speeches by the UV’s Principal, the Mayor and the President of Caixa Ontinyent, in the presentation of the monograph for the ALBA Journal in honour of the 25th anniversary also participated Director of the Ontinyent Campus José Cantó, Teachers Representative Mª José Vañó, Students Representative Esmeralda Llinares, and Teacher Manuel Requena, as a member of the advisory council of the City Council’s Publications Service. The ALBA Journal publishes local studies edited by Ontinyent City Council, and this issue (no. 33) addresses topics such as the social and economic impact of the Ontinyent Campus and its surroundings, the university in the context of the local structure, the creation of the campus, and a photo compilation of the opening acts of the academic year, among others.
