In addition, Mary Nash and Francisco Doñate Oliver were named Doctor Honoris Causa and the institution’s Medal was given to Professor Isabel Vázquez.
In the analysis of the economic and financial situation of the University of Valencia, attention was drawn to the increased pressure from the sustained growth of Chapter 1 (costs related to staff) which exceeded the rise in current revenue, forcing the initial credits for renovations and infrastructures to be lowered. The credit for investments in the first months of 2026 has practically also run out. During his exposition before the Government Council meeting, the General Manager of the Universitat de València, Daniel González, highlighted the need to allocate additional resources towards infrastructures, to collect all debts from other organisations and to consider carrying out patrimonial operations only when they align with the Universitat’s strategic interests. Additionally, he insisted on the importance of negotiating with the Valencian Government in order to effectively implement the pending measures from the middle-term Finance framework.
Moreover, the Government Council granted the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mary Nash Baldwin and Almansa native Francisco Doñate Oliver. Professor Nash, emeritus professor from the Universitat de Barcelona, is a pioneer in studying the history of women, gender and feminism in Spain. As for Professor Doñate Oliver, he is a full university professor of Human Anatomy and Embryology at the University of the Basque Country and an eminent doctor specialised in neurosurgery.
Furthermore, full university professor Isabel Vázquez Navarro from the Department of Chemical Engineering was given the Universitat de València Medal. Professor Vázquez was the UV’s vice-principal for 16 years and held different management positions in our academic institution. All of the faculties from the Burjassot Campus joined the proposal made by the School of Engineering to grant this accolade to Professor Vázquez.
