The intrauterine manipulator, the F1 simulator and an interactive stand with virtual and augmented reality are the centre of attention at one of the leading international technological events.
During October 23 and October 24, the Universitat de València and its Science Park have shown the international scientific community the latest advances and trends in R+D+I of the institution.
More than 12,000 people attending the Valencia Digital Summit, held at the City of Arts and Sciences, were able to find out first-hand about the research offer and services provided by the leading Valencian universities, all through an interactive and immersive proposal that attracted the attention of the entire audience.
In this edition, the UV has opted to have a special presence. In this sense, the Vice-Principal for Lifelong Learning, Educational Transformation and Employment, Ángeles Solanes, wanted to point out that ‘this commitment has consisted not only in extending the exhibition space to 50 square metres, but also in organising activities such as a workshop and a panel discussion, as well as presenting fourteen projects in the field of technological innovation’.
In addition, she also emphasised that as the leading research institution in the Valencian Community, the University has brought projects from all areas of knowledge.
Projects that have left no one indifferent And the fact is that the mayor of the city of Valencia, M. José Catalá, could not miss the opportunity to try out the Formula 1 simulator, to learn about the benefits of the UV's most outstanding project at the fair, the intrauterine manipulator, and to interact with the virtual reality screens at the University's stand.
Technology applied to medicine
Since its foundation 525 years ago, the Universitat de València has always been, and continues to be, committed to the progress and development of Valencian society.
In this way, the University has taken advantage of the meeting to show the world a revolutionary technology that will change gynaecological care and has been the focus of attention at the fair.
It was presented the intrauterine manipulator, a surgical tool developed by four departments of the General Hospital together with the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) of the Universitat de València.
It allows a specialist to be reduced in the table operations and follows the surgeon´s instructions via voice prompts, which also increases the work capacity.
The doctor at the Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia, Cristóbal Zaragoza, in statements to the media, explained that the tool ‘is useful in general and digestive surgery, gynaecology and urology’.
He also stressed that its use ‘as well as facilitating the intervention, reduces complications and haemorrhages, which translates into important positive aspects for the patient’.
Innovation at the UV
The Universitat de València is an institution that focuses its activity on all areas of knowledge and whose raison d'être is the generation of knowledge that serves as a driving force for cultural, social and economic progress.
Thus, the Delegate of the Principal Pedro Morillo, also wanted to highlight the value of an innovative system for viewing incunabula, which will later be available at the La Nau Cultural Centre. This tool makes it possible for all researchers at an international level to access all the volumes available at the Universitat. In this way, it not only makes the heritage of the UV available to everyone, but also protects it.
But innovation at the university cannot be understood without the knowledge transfer, and to publicise the institution's work in this field, on Thursday 24th, it organised two activities in which, on the one hand, it highlighted some of its spin-offs, the tool that the institution is promoting to develop and make its technological innovations available to society.
It was attended by directors of some of the start-ups that the University has recently launched, as well as researchers from the Science Park and UV professors.
This was followed by a panel discussion in which technologies developed by UV research teams that are transforming their respective sectors were presented.
Cross-disciplinary Innovation
The UV participation in the Valencia Digital Summit is not only a way of highlighting its R+D+I projects, but also to show society what a public university with more than 525 years of history is capable of doing.
And its staging has left no one indifferent. An interactive video wall with virtual and augmented reality has been used to publicise its range of services dedicated to research, innovation and development.
A tool that has been designed entirely by the institution and which demonstrates its work and innovation in all fields.
