UV´s alumni ends the academic year with a number of activities

  • May 31st, 2016

UV´s Alumni says goodbye to the academic year 2015-2016 by organising several activities which will take place throughout the month of June. Like every Summer, "Night with the Stars" makes a comeback in the Astronomic Observatory of the University. Apart from this, there will be other events such as guided tours and expositions, book club, gastronomy club, as well as walks around the city and the countryside.

Every Summer, The Astronomic Observatory and UV´s Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics organise open sessions which take place at night in order to make the observation of stars and planets easier.  UV´s alumni have reserved the night of 15 of June (Wednesday) for its members.

Apart from that, in the month of June, there are other activities organised by UV´s collective effort: The Book Club, which on the 7th will immerse itself in the world of Catalan novels through the reading of “Dins de l'últim blau” by Carme Riera; the Gastronomy Club, along with Valencia Cuisine Club, which on the 22nd will hold the last session of the academic year dedicated to the egg as a basic ingredient; and the Alumni Comparteix programme, which on this occasion will consist of a free visit, on the 9th of June, to the permanent exposition “Medicine and Society” located at the university´s faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The visit will be led by an alumni Joan Lloret, a pediatrician and assosiate professor of Universitat de València. The exposition shows a wide selection of more than 200 pieces from UV´s scientic-medical collection, which has been conserved since 1970´s, thanks to the work of professor José María López Piñero. The professor´ goal was, above all, to preserve the heritage of this academic institution and to make the scientific production of this institution equal to that of the best European History of Medicine institutes of the time.

Walks around the city on-site visits

As a part of the activities organised by Fil-per-Randa Travel Club, UV Alumni suggests to its members five different plans to take place throughout the month.

As a part of the cycle “Valencia inside out”, on the 4th of June there will be an Irish night by the moonlight in the Botanic Garden, full of music, poetra, hamburgers and beer; on the 5th there will be a guided tour of Valencian Golden Age from la Trinidad to la Lonja; on the 24th there will be tour around the Albufera by sail, an already-established activity for this group in the month of June; on the 25th there will be a visit to the great exposition of works by Ignacio Pinazo, one of the most renowned Valencian artists of all time, in the ancient convent in el Carmen.

Finally, on the 12th there will be a trip to the natural reserve of Valdeserrillas, in the Serranos region, where one can enjoy spectacular views offered by the landscape of Benagéber marshes and the canyons of the Turia river.  There will be a walk around the reserve with the aim of discovering the native fauna of the place and visiting the lookout points of the canyon.  Later, to gain strength, there will be free lunch, followed by sailing in an ecological boat up the waters between the cliffs that make up the canyon.
