The development of the project is presented in two phases, one on short term, and another one on medium and long term, and it will allow to offer formation on the different university levels, as well as boosting the research, innovation, and culture

The Sagunto City Hall and the University of Valencia have announced the agreement of the creation of UV headquarters in Sagunto, for which working teams will be created soon to mark a timeframe and the projects on short and long term as well as the formative priorities that will be considered.

In this respect, the mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, along with other members of the government, received the rector of the University of Valencia, Maria Vicenta Mestre Escrivà, in the city hall, with who they had a work meeting afterwards, along with her team to talk about the different matters related to the new UV headquarters in the city. Furthermore, the rector has signed the book of honour of the city during her visit.

Regarding the announcement of the creation of new headquarters of the University of Valencia in Sagunto, the mayor has explained that on the City Hall’s behalf “it had been tried before and the will of being a university city already existed. We are talking about a city with over 3000 years of history, which makes it have a very rich heritage, and apart from that, we have a big economic and industrial powerhouse, which we are developing to its limits during this legislation, therefore we thought that we met the requirements”. In this respect, he explained that “from now on we have to keep working to make a realistic proposal that implies a permanent presence of the University of Valencia in our city”. A project in which the union side as well as the business side will be involved, which can better detect the necessities for this offer to give a solution to the existing needs in our city.

Likewise, the rector of the University of Valencia has stated that “for us it is a big satisfaction to take this step here in Sagunto to strengthen the relationship we already had, since the University is already here in Sagunto, but in this moment what we want in to initiate the establishment of the UV Sagunt, a headquarters of the University of Valencia in Sagunto, with quality formation on different levels, with research, innovation and culture. Sagunto has plenty of historical, archaeological, industrial and business potential, and we will also be close to the Municipal Corporation to contribute to the success of this gigafactory, which will improve society”.

Regarding the terms and ways of working together, the rector affirms that the goal is to generate working groups “that will make us progress securely and inside that specific timeline, in a limited time, because we want to progress from now on. The first thing we will do is sign a collaboration agreement which will cover all these activities that we will slowly decipher”.

Furthermore, the mayor has explained that their will is to propose a project with two different speeds “some initiatives we try to achieve in short term, for September this year, and others that will be resolved in medium to long term. The short-term idea is to use the facilities we already have and further on we will propose some adequate infrastructures for the future proposals”.   

The councillors María José Carrera, Quico Fernández and Roberto Rovira have attended the meeting as well. On the part of the University of Valencia, the vice-rector of studies, Isabel Vázquez Navarro; the vice-rector of Permanent Formation, Teaching Transformation and Occupation, Ángeles Solanes Corella; the vice-rector of Culture and Society, Ester Alba Pagán; the manager of the University of Valencia, Juan Vicente Climent Espí; the delegate of students, Manuel González Ferrandis; the director of the Rector’s Cabinet and Marketing and Institutional Communication, Joan Enric Úbeda, and the vice-manager of Economic Coordination and Services, Beatriz Gómez.
