Intervention of the Principal

The Principal has reported on her investment plan in her report to the Senate. This consists of more than 150 million euros that the UV is allocating to infrastructures, which will be the biggest transformation in the history of the university campuses. She also reported on the deployment of the Organic Law on the University System (LOSU) and the full coverage of the places for the undergraduate degrees.

On her report, the Principal has reiterated the condemnation of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine and Israel’s military intervention in Gaza, demanding an end to this genocide and recalling the actions of commitment with Palestine, signing agreements with Palestinian universities which, with awareness-rising actions, will be resumed at the beginning of the academic year. The Principal also recalled the call of the refuge scholarships which will allow Afghan women and students, and Palestinian students to continue their training at the UV.

Over 150 million euros invested in infrastructures
The UV has started an ambitious investment plan that will bring the biggest transformation in the history of the UV university campuses. It can be consulted on the portal https://www.uv.es/infrastructures/en/infrastructures-uv.html

The programme for the humanisation of the Tarongers Campus, voted by the university community, will involve replacing cement with green areas.

In addition to the already completed interventions of LegalTech and CrimLab, and after more than 47 million euros invested, two more will soon be opened. The Entrepreneurship Centre at the Tarongers Campus, adding new classrooms to the South Classrooms Building and to the Audiovisual Workshop, and the new “West Classrooms Building 2”, which will solve the most immediate and future teaching needs.

The construction of a new building for the Social Sciences research institutes will be added to these investments.

On the Burjassot-Paterna Campus, besides the 100 million euros, there will be a major transformation of the green areas and the overall lighting of the campus as well as the construction of two new buildings. Building Y, where part of the optics equipment of the Faculty of Physics will be located, and building H, for the Faculty of Biological Sciences, which will be one of the most cutting-edge facilities in Europe.

Furthermore, on the Burjassot Campus, work will be carried out in the departments of the Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences. A tasting room, kitchens and spaces for gastronomic sciences will be created, as well as a pilot plant for the production of medicines that will be added to the pharmacy office, already in operation.

149 new teaching positions
In relation to the LOSU deployment, the Principal informed that an estimated 149 positions will be funded by the Ministry of Universities and that they have to be covered by 30 June 2025. Thus, the Principal informed that “once the content of the agreement has been determined, from the Teaching Staff Committee we’ll have to analyse the additional doctoral assistant lecturer positions that we can offer during the next academic year, and approve at the Governing Council their distribution among areas of knowledge according to the structural needs of teaching resources”.

New national internships regulation
The Principal informed that the Conference of Spanish Universities Principals (CRUE) is working on a proposal to improve the quality of the internships within the EU, developing a new regulatory framework “which requires a synthesis effort within the Spanish university system to provide a basis for what should be considered quality external academic curricular internships”.

In the course of this approval, the Principal stated that “in the Universitat de València, we’ll keep guaranteeing all curricular and extra curricular internships linked to the official degrees, unlike other universities, to continue offering the best and most complete training to our students”.

More than 1,500 formative micro-credentials
Within the framework of the Generalitat Valenciana’s project “European Union university micro-credentials”, the UV will offer at least 1,548 micro-credentials linked to 27 formative actions, for an amount of 1,250,000 euros, to meet the training needs of the Valencian social and business sector.

100 % coverage of the training places offered: the first university
The principal also stated the results of the UV pre-enrolment, which has covered all 8,924 places offered in the 56 undergraduate degree programmes, 4 of them with groups in Ontinyent, and in the 13 double degree programmes.

Thus, the Universitat de València, with the largest educational offer of the Valencian Public University System, is the first of the Valencian universities in terms of volume of offer, diversity of educational offer, and innovation in double degree programmes.
