València will become the global capital of circular economy from 9 to 13 June 2026 by celebrating the 19th Global Congress on Anaerobic Digestion by the Water International Association. The congress has the technical and organisation support of Universitat de València ADEIT Foundation, in collaboration with IWA and organised by Universitat de València School of Engineering (ETSE-UV).

The meeting will take place at València Conference Centre and will gather researchers, professionals and institutions of international level to debate about the last advances on waste water and biowaste treatment in order to promote circular economy and turn waste into useful resources.

Under the motto Fueling Sustainability, the congress aims to share knowledge and strengthen the collaboration networks while defining strategies for the future in a key area for the transition to more sustainable production models..

'Anaerobic biotechnology has turned from an efficient solution for waste treatment into an integral approach by which waste becomes valuable resources', pointed out Ángel robles and Mª Victoria Ruan, ETSE Professors in Chemical Engineering and members of the Organising Committee. 'We firmly believe in the development of such key technology to transform waste into climate solutions and a way to build a more sustainable future'.

In this edition, the congress promotes the synergt between science, industry and public institutions to decarbonise the planet and grow towards a low emission bioeconomy, as explained by organisers. «anaerobic treatments pose as a change engine since it generates bioenergy, green fertilisers and bioproducts out of waste».
For the week, the newest advances on subject areas related to anaerobic biotechnologies and circular economy will be addressed:
•    New waste and waste water valoration strategies.
•    Bioenergy production (biogas, green hydrogen...).
•    Bioproducts production (fertilisers, green chemicals, bioplastic).
•    Anaerobic bioprocesses digitalisation and optimisation.
•    Environmental, economical and social  sustainability assessment of anaerobic biotechnologies.
•    Emergent pollutant control (microplastics, antibiotic-resistant genes, etc.).
•    Innovating approaches based on microbiology and molecular biology.
'The IWA AD19 Congress opens the path to a greener planet: renewable energies, green fertilisers and clean chemistry. València becomes the capital of green innovation, where science turns waste into valuable resources' concludes the Organising Committee.
