What is new in the latest research on reading comprehension difficulties through digital devices? Can YouTube be a pedagogical tool for promoting reading?

During Friday 18th and Saturday 19th, ADEIT became the centre of study and analysis around the latest news on the promotion and teaching of reading carried out by professionals from all over the Valencia Region. Among the novelties, an app was presented to help the reading of traffic panels for people with dyslexia, with live demonstrations, and successful experiences in the use of technology as a pedagogical tool. This is the case of the activities of booktubers to promote reading or the use of YouTube in the classroom to initiate critical reading.

The comparison between reading comprehension through digital devices versus traditional reading on paper continues to be a subject of analysis. In this sense, the latest research continues to produce data in favour of the “paper's superiority effect” over technological means.

The 7th ERI Reading Conference comes from an interdisciplinary research structure created at the Universitat de València to promote research in reading. It is comprised by prestigious researchers from the Universitat de València, Salamanca, Oviedo, Basque Country, Zaragoza and Barcelona. These conferences were carried out in collaboration with the CEFIRE Específic de Plurilingüisme and CEFIRE Específic d'Educació Inclusiva de València.
