DEL TERROR Y AUTORITARISMO William F. Stone
Universidad

ABSTRACT Terror Management
Theory, based on the ideas of Ernest Becker, suggests that the fear of death
is universal. When forced to think about the possibility of one’s own death,
the first response is denial and deferral. Next, after this impulse has
passed, defensive behavior is invoked that usually involves shoring up one’s
cultural worldview and one’s self-esteem. It also involves derogation of
other beliefs, leading to prejudice, discrimination, and even to murderous
acts. This paper briefly recounts Terror Management Theory and supporting
evidence. It attempts to draw parallels between the behavior
of individuals whose unconscious death anxiety has been raised through a
“mortality salience” manipulation to the behavior of authoritarian persons.
There is little direct evidence, but there seem to be ample reasons to
believe that the authoritarian personality is particularly sensitive to
threats of death. Key words: Terror

LA CRISIS DEMOCRÁTICA. Carisma y Neopopulismo
Alexandre Dorna Universidad de
Caen.
ABSTRACT The crisis of
contemporary democratic society plays an important role in the return of the
neofascist and populist movements with charismatic
leadership. A consideration of the resurgence of these phenomena in Europe
illustrates this affirmation. The situation in Mexico
can inspire new hypotheses and confirm others. Other cases, Chile and
Venezuela, offer a ground of similar observation, as much as the European
conditions in France, Belgium or Austria. Key words: charismatic
leadership, neopopulism, contemporary democracy |

37-58 EFECTOS DE
LA IMPUNIDAD EN EL SENTIDO DE JUSTICIA Luisa Cabrera
Universidad
Complutense.
ABSTRACT This article
describes some of the changes in beliefs about the legitimacy of the law and
justice, coming out of the experience of political-legal impunity in trials
for violations of human rights. The analysis and the conclusions are based
in a collection of interviews and surveys, of individuals and groups, carried
out with a hundred victims of violations of human rights, in the specific
context of Guatemala. The work is guided theoretically by Dennis R. Fox’s
formulations on the impact of the legal system in people’s lives. Some suppositions of dominant social
psychology that explain beliefs that have to do with the relationships between
citizens and the state are analyzed to determine if, in light of the
experience of our interviewees, they are, or are not, applicable to the
context of Guatemala after the conflict. Key words: beliefs,
perceived injustice, law’s legitimacy, violations to the human rights. |
Psicología Política, Nº 23, 2001, 59-75 CIUDADANÍA
MUNDIAL Gianfranco Pasquino
ABSTRACT Contrary to
widespread beliefs, the notion of a world citizenship is neither fully nor
equally accepted everywhere. While it appears to be largely accepted in
theory, its practice is subject to varying interpretations and may even run
counter the most important components of what is usually meant by world
citizenship. Therefore, it is legitimate to stress that we are only at the
beginning of a phase of theoretical understanding of the concept and its
implications and of few tentative practical applications. In this essay, I
will proceed by identifying what kind of noble aspiration world citizenship
is. I will then suggest that world citizenship may be differently interpreted
by communitarians and by republicans. Finally, I will conclude by pointing
at the many problems to be solved before making significant process on the
path to world citizenship. Key words: world

Psicología Política, Nº 23, 2001, 77-84 CONTRADICCIONES
EN LA POLÍTICA DE LA SOSTENIBILIDAD Bernardo Jiménez-Domínguez
Universidad de
Guadalajara.
ABSTRACT Based on the
experience of the psychosocial international project "City, Identity and
Sustainability" (CIS) and the discussions of the CIS network, the
concept of sustainability is analyzed in terms of its political origin, the
texts of international documents on sustainable development and the
ambiguities and polysemia of its definitions and
use by different actors and agencies. The analysis focuses on the
confrontation between political diversity and the aims of common action in a
world made up of a diversity of regional economies and large international
corporations, where the inequity between North and South is responsible for
the destruction of traditions. Key words: sustainability, equity, environmental
justice. |

ABSTRACT This paper analyses
the influence of different variables connected with group identity and
efficacy in political protest. Our results underline efficacy as the variable
which is the most relevant and has the greatest predictive capacity. Parallel
to this, involvement with the group, expressed as voluntary membership in an
organisation, is the only one of the three measurements of identity that has
an explanatory function, although its contribution is quite modest. Key words: group
identification, efficacy, political protest |
