Constitution of the Chair for Economy for the Common Good of the Universitat de València

On Friday 16 June, the agreement corresponding to the Chair for Economy for the Common Good [CatEBC] of the Universitat de València, funded by the Valencian Department for Sustainable Economy, Trade and Work of the Valencian Government, was signed by Councillor Rafael Climent and Principal Esteban Morcillo. The signing ceremony has also been attended by the Vice-Principal for Internationalisation and Cooperation of the Universitat de València, Guillermo Palao; the General Director for Economy, Entrepreneurship and Cooperativism, Francisco Álvarez, the Deputy Director of Economy Vicent Monfort, the Vice-Dean of Employability and Revitalization of the Faculty of Economics Elvira Cerver ; and the Full University Professor of the Department of Business Management, Joan Ramon Sanchis.

This chair is created as a specific academic tool dedicated to the dissemination of the Economy for the Common Good model from the university sphere. The chair will aim at developing and promoting the Economy for the Common Good in the Valencian Community from the university ambit through the organisation of different dissemination, training and research activities. The CatEBC Chair will work together with the Valencian Association for Promotion of Economy for the Common Good, a non-profit organisation that gathers professionals and followers of ECG in the Valencian Community, which recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Universitat de València.

The general aim of the Chair is to disseminate values and principles of ECG, giving general interest and common good priority in front of particular interests, and individuals and work before capital and money. Through debate, discussion, research and training it aims at offering a critical view of economy, offering sustainable alternatives (economic, social and ecological) to the problems of the Valencian society. Constitution and development of ECG organisations will also be promoted, supporting companies responsible and ethical with society, especially cooperatives and other organisations of Social and Solidary Economy.

Among the training activities, there will be training courses addressed to Valencian companies which are willing to enter the ECG and implement the Common Good Balance, UV Postgraduate studies about ECG addressed to the university community and the general public and other training activities that are considered suitable, such as workshops, sessions and seminars on ECG issues. It has also been planned the development of a Teaching Innovation Project, with the aim of implementing the ECG model and its principles and values in the teaching programmes of the university and non-university education (High School, Vocational Training and Elementary School).

Regarding the research activities, we can highlight the development of research projects on ECG matters, contracts in business advice matters for companies willing to implement ECG and studies and reports proposed by the Directorate General for Economy, Entrepreneurship and Cooperativism in ECG matters.

Finally, among the dissemination activities there is the celebration of Seminars, Sessions and Workshops on ECG issues addressed to the university community and the general public, in addition to the edition of publications (books, journals, etc.) in ECB matters and calls for Grants and Awards addressed to university students.
