    The Degree in Pharmacy aims at training professionals expert in medicines and their impact on health. The training acquired includes knowledge on medicines and the substances used in their manufacture; pharmaceutical technology and the physical, chemical, biological and microbiological aspects of medicines; metabolism; and the effects of medicines, as well as their use and legal requirements.

    Profile

    This degree qualifies graduates to practise as pharmacists: health-care professionals whose responsibilities include producing, storing and dispensing medicines, and collaborating in analytical, pharmacotherapeutic and public health surveillance processes. These tasks are carried out within different workplaces and fields, such as pharmacy offices, pharmaceutical industry, hospital and non-hospital specialities, analysis laboratories, health management, education and research, health promotion and also disease prevention.

    • This degree qualifies students to practise as pharmacist, in accordance with Spanish and European regulations.
    • Background on biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics is advisable to study Pharmacy.
    • The Degree in Pharmacy has been updated with the addition of new subjects in Dietetics, Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Care, as well as Scientific Documentation and Methodology.
    • Possibility of joining an ARA (high academic performance student group) and taking at least 50% of the teaching in English.

    Medicine is one of the oldest professions in humanity, and provides answers to the reality of illness: it tries to cure or alleviate it, seeks the best instruments of prevention and seeks to promote people's health. The Degree in Medicine, therefore, provides a comprehensive training that allows students to gain an adequate knowledge of the sciences and techniques associated with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. This requires an in-depth knowledge of the biological characteristics of the human being and the importance of the relationship with the physical and social environment. Finally, it is essential to acquire adequate clinical experience that prepares students for the subsequent practice of the profession.

    Medicine is a regulated, collegiate health profession with a defined field of action. Thus, graduates in Medicine can pursue careers in the following areas: medical care, healthcare management, the pharmaceutical industry, teaching and research.

  • Degree in Medicine
    Useful information
    • To study Medicine it is recommended to have previous knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.
    • It is very important to have the ability to work in a team, an active learning attitude as well as communication skills and empathy with the patient.
    • From the third year onwards, students are required to undertake clinical practice.
    • In the sixth year, students carry out supervised internships in university hospitals. In collaboration with different departments, they have to actively participate in the resolution of real clinical cases. This enables them to acquire the practical knowledge necessary for the autonomous practice of the profession.
    • The hospitals linked to the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry are the following: Hospital Clínic Universitari, Hospital Universitari La Fe, Hospital General Universitari and Hospital Universitari Doctor Peset.
    • There is the possibility of studying in Valencian, Spanish or English (this group is an ARA group, with high academic performance).
    • During the degree, optional modules are offered, 6 of which must be taken.
    • This degree qualifies students to practise as doctors.

    Dentistry studies will provide future dentists with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, diagnose and treat health problems related to teeth, jawbones, mouth and oral tissues. Moreover, the importance of continuing education is instilled, since it’s necessary to incorporate dentistry-related scientific and technological advancements to the daily clinical practice. At the same time, students are trained in communication with patients whose conditions must be taken into account so that they can take part in therapeutic decisions as well.

    Profile

    Based on the regulatory norms of the dentist profession, this degree trains students to be capable of successfully completing  all the phases included in the healing process of oral diseases, that is, to prevent, diagnose and treat any anomaly concerning the oral cavity. Their responsibilities also include prescribing medication and health products within their field of action.

    • Before studying Dentistry, it’s advisable for students to have a prior understanding of biology, chemistry and physics.
    • Only second-year and fifth-year students can enrol in optional subjects.
    • Fifth-year students must carry out a supervised internship, which will allow them to acquire the knowledge necessary to work autonomously.
    • The supervised internships consist of an active participation in health services with real clinical cases.
    • The University Hospitals of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry are: Hospital Clínico Universitario, Hospital Universitario La Fe, Hospital General Universitario and Hospital Universitario Doctor Peset. Moreover, the Universitat de València has its own dental clinic where students train in outpatient care.
    • This degree enables the professional exercise of odontologist work.

    The Degree in Physiotherapy aims at training professionals in physiotherapy with the scientific skills and ability to describe, identify, consult and compare health problems related to the area of physiotherapy. Considering individuals in a threefold way (biologically, psychologically and socially), students learn a set of procedures, techniques and measures used to help people cure, recover and adapt after being affected by deteriorations, functional limitations or disabilities produced as a result of an injury, illness or other causes.

    Graduates in Physiotherapy must be able to assess the patient's functional status, determine the physiotherapy diagnosis, design the physiotherapy intervention plan and provide effective physiotherapy care. Physiotherapists can intervene in the areas of health promotion, prevention, protection and recovery, when cooperating in multidisciplinary teams.

    • The Degree in Physiotherapy qualifies graduates to practise as physiotherapists, in accordance with all legal requirements and current regulations.
    • The experimental nature of the degree makes that both practical lessons and external internships in clinics (in which direct contact with patients plays an important role) represent a fundamental part of the training offered by the University of Valencia to Physiotherapy students.

    Profile

    Nurses are experts in the provision of care and the care of sick and dependent persons; they carry out the procedures of clinical and care practice, whether in primary care services, hospital services or social and health care services. As members of a health team in home care they act as a link between primary and specialised care. They provide health information to individuals, families and groups. By diagnosing the health of the population, they locate social and health needs, identify groups of people exposed to risk factors and mobilise community resources to involve the community in solving their problems. They also intervene in planning, organisation and control activities in the health administration, in the continuous training of professionals and students. In addition, they carry out documentary and field research tasks and develop their own and interdisciplinary research programmes and projects.

    • The Degree in Nursing qualifies students to practise the profession of nurse, in accordance with state and European regulations.
    • To study Nursing it is essential to have previous knowledge of biology and chemistry, and it is advisable to have knowledge of mathematics and physics.
    • Internships are one of the key elements in the training for this degree; therefore, out of 240 credits, more than a third (82.5 credits) are internships in health institutions (health centres, auxiliary clinics, hospitals, family planning units, mental health centres, etc.).

    This degree qualifies for the practice of activities related to diet and nutrition of individuals or groups in different physiological and/or pathological situations. Graduates carry out their profession in accordance with the principles of health protection and promotion, prevention of illnesses and dietetic and nutritional treatment when necessary. By ethical and legal principles, the profession is practiced with autonomy, awareness of the need to renew knowledge and the ability to collaborate with other health care professionals.

    Dietitians are experts in food, nutrition and dietetics, qualified to intervene in the nutrition of an individual or a group within the following fields of action: nutrition in health and illness, dietary consultancy, research and teaching, public health from governmental bodies, companies of the food industry and collective and social catering.

  • Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
    Useful information
    • Background in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics is recommended to study Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
    • This degree shares 111 credits (20 subjects) with the Degree in Food Science and Technology. The common credits are distributed as follows: 99 credits from basic and compulsory subjects, and 12 credits from optional subjects.
    • The degree in Nutrition has been updated by adding new subjects: Psychology, Community Nutrition, Scientific Documentation and Methodology, Molecular Pathology and Food Hygiene.
    • University of Valencia owns a University Clinic of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Physiotherapy, where students are trained in the care of external patients.
    • Dietitian nutritionist is a health profession regulated by the Spanish law (Llei 44/2003, de 21 de novembre).
