Lesson 3: How many...?


This is the third lesson of the Unit: Let's cook. Each tab in this toggable menu represents a step in the path that we can follow to do each activity of the lesson. Finally, the Learning Outcomes of this lesson are:

Recipe, decimals and fractions, units conversion and money.

First of all, you are going to choose democratically one recipe of the group’s recipe and write it down in the following document.

Warm up activities

In the next lesson, Lesson 4, we are going to buy our ingredients in a real supermarket and in the last lesson, Lesson 5, we are going to cook our recipe. For that reason, in this lesson, Lesson 3, we will discover the ingredients that we need to cook our recipe and how many we need of each of it. Can you go to our recipe document and focus on the ingredients?

Main activities

Exercise 1

First of all, we are going to adapt the recipe ingredients to have at least one element of food for each class member. So, we are going to change the ingredients units of our recipe.

Exercise 2

Once we know the ingredients that we need, we have to create a class supermarket and buy some things in it. After that, we have to solve the following problems:

Problem 1

We need 500gr of butter. In the supermarket we can find butter of 50gr, 125gr and 300gr. Which products are we going to buy and how many? Explain your answer.




Problem 2

In groups, we will look for each ingredient of our recipe on Internet and complete the following document.

In it, you have to add the quantity of each ingredient that we need to cook our recipe and also, the quantity of the container food found, the price of each product and which one you will choose. After complete this table, you will save it and send to my email: maeslli@alumni.uv.es.

After sending our document, I'm going to focus on all your options and we are going to make a class discussion about which product could be the best option to make the purchase. In this activity we are going to focus on our arguments. Why will we buy one or other product?
