The conference “Learning about the territory at the local level – University and citizenship facing flood risks” will take place on 23rd October at the Aula Magna of La Nau Cultural Centre.
The session will start at 9:00am at the Aula Magna of La Nau Cultural Centre, with the opening carried out by Albert Moncusí, Vice-rector for Culture, Sports and Social Engagement. Subsequently, Ana Mª Camarasa, full professor of Geography at the Universitat de València, will present “Flood risks and knowledge transfer at the local level – the big challenge of the 21st century”.
During the morning, different knowledge-transfer experiences developed at the Universitat de València will be presented, with the participation of BUILD-CHANGE, RISKED, INNPULSO, INTERGENERACIONS-DANA, SALVEM LES FOTOS and ANDANA. These experiences will be useful for a panel discussion, moderated by Joan Romero.
The second part of the morning will focus on the role of the stakeholder networks and the social agents in the transfer of knowledge. This session will analyse networks of collaboration and solidarity initiatives in response to the DANA, as well as the role of territorial connection nodes and different associations and social agents. Representatives from the Mancomunitat de l’Horta Sud, the Fundació Comunitària l’Horta Sud, the Consorci Pactem Nord, the Local Committees of Emergency and Reconstruction (CLERCs), and victim’s and cultural associations will take part.
In the afternoon, the session will continue with the practical workshops “Understanding Flood Risks through Maps”, organised by the RIUMED group of the Universitat de València. The activities will allow participants to learn about the characteristics of their river basin, analyse flood risks, and learn how to access reliable information. Prior registration will be required to participate in the workshops, with limited capacity.
The conference will continue with a learning space and citizenship debate, in which the experiences presented throughout the day will be assessed. Finally, at 7:00pm, Joan Romero, full professor of Geography at the Universitat de València, will deliver the closing lecture and present the conclusions of the session.
