Goals

The research centre studies culture in a broad sense and from a multidisciplinary perspective including the contributions of sociology, anthropology, history or cultural studies. Specially, it would be addressed to analyse the relationship between cultural practices, power, identities or social change.

The research centre has the following objectives:

  1. Culture analysis, cultural practices and social change: Study of contemporary society transformations from a culture sociology point of view, the appearance of new creation perspectives, the cohort effect in the change of cultural practices, the appearance of new communities of cultural consumption and the expansion of these patterns to new social areas (artistification), as well as the introduction of ways of thinking from other fields in the cultural sphere (digitalisation, politization, etc).
     
  2. Analysis of sportive and leisure practices: Study of the new patterns of sportive practices, the relationship between social change, social cohesion and sport, the relationship between institutions in the sportive, political and economic field. Research on urban space transformation in a leisure space and in cities as settings and producers of new social practices that reconfigure urban structures and their uses.
     
  3. Power and intellectual’s analysis: Study of both, power and culture relationships as a control, standardisation and hierarchical organisation, and of the dynamics of cultural resistance of ancient and new social movements. Research on interrelations and dependencies between the political, intellectual and cultural field, and on their role when it comes to reproduction and social change.
     
  4. Analysis of festive culture and cultural heritage: Study on the development of festive culture, the social role on cultural traditions and the processes of modernisation of festive events in the context of cultural globalisation processes. Analysis of the building processes of a cultural memory and the enhancement of cultural heritage in terms of the construction of local and territorial identities, especially in contexts of cultural plurality.
     
  5. Analysis of culture, territory and national identities: Study of the relationship between national and cultural identities, cultural political configurations, sub-state politics and federalism, as well as their role in economic and social development and the generation of territorial brands in a globalised framework (place branding), specially applied to the Valencian country.
     
  6. Analysis of political culture, historical memory and identities: Study of the relationship between the socio-historical framework and political culture.
     
  7. Analysis of policies, institutions and cultural organisations: Study of territorial and local cultural policies as governance and interrelation systems between cultural agents and agents of their role in the configuration of collective identities and as mechanisms for the development of artistic districts, the empowerment of sectors and the promotion of creative professions. Study of speeches and praxis of cultural, public, private and from the third sector practices and, specially, of museums and other representative entities of the culture autonomous field.
     
  8. Analysis on the impact of new technologies in culture: Study of new cultural practices in a digital framework. It studies the impact of new technologies in power mechanisms and social and cultural control.
