
Digipol members were convenors of a section, chaired and discussed in multiple panels and presented several papers
The 2024 General Conference of the European Consortium for Political Research was held at University College Dublin from August 12-15.
In this edition, several members of Digipol led a section, led multiple panels and presented several papers.
Oscar Barberà collaborated with Anamaria Dutceac and Linn Sandberg in the organization of the Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Democracy section.
Within this section, Oscar Barberà charied the panel "Digital Democratic Innovations in parties and beyond" where several colleagues such as Francesco Nesi, Petia Gueorguieva, Michal Malý or Michel Perottino presented papers. He also acted as a discussant on the panel "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Analyzing Democratic Processes" charied by Delia Dumitrescu where papers were presented by Dayei Oh and by Anne Rasmussen and colleagues. Finally, Oscar Barberà presented with Adrià Mompó the paper "Data-driven campaigns in Spain: evidence from the 2023 electoral cycle" in the panel on "Data Driven Campaigning" chaired by Anamaria Dutceac and Linn Sandberg.
In the same section Marco Guglielmo chaired the panel "Ideologies and Discourses on Digital Transformation and AI" where papers were presented by Joschua Helmer, Licinia Güttel, D'arcy Ritchie, Nathan Critch, Paul Geyer.
Oscar Barberà and Marco Guglielmo also participated in the section "Political parties and their communities in the digital age: How new and established parties organize, mobilize, connect and appeal" led by Sarah Engler, Tim Haughton and Kristina Weissenbach.
Marco Guglielmo presented the paper "Digital Activism in Left-wing Parties: The Micro-Influencer and the Community-Organiser: A Gramscian Analysis" within the panel "Building Communities in the Digital Age: What matters for building a party community?" chaired by Sarah Engler, Kristina Weissenbach and Tim Haughton.
Oscar Barberà chaired the panel "Communicating and Convincing in a Digital Age", which also featured Elodie Fabre as discussant. In this panel papers were presented by Lucas Kins and colleagues, Tatiana Fernández and Omri Cohen.
Finally, Marco Guglielmo was also a discussant in the panel "Comparative Perspectives on the Radical Left in Europe and Beyond" chaired by Vincent Dain in the section "The Many Contexts of Radicalism, Populism, and Extremism: From the Local to the Transnational ” organized by Sabine Dorothea, Vincent Dain and Anita Nissen.
