The workshop was held in collaboration with the Regional Parliament, Europe Direct and a Jean Monnet Chair between June 17 and 21. A group of students from Ukraine also were invited
More than fifty students and teachers from the different universities in the Forthem Alliance met at the Faculty of Law of the University of Valencia to analyze the elections to the European Parliament and their political implications. The activity was part of the short-term mobility actions (Short Term Mobilities) promoted by Forthem and was held entirely in English in morning and afternoon sessions.
The meeting, organized by professors Oscar Barberà and Ramón Villaplana, was attended by students from the universities of Burgundy (France), Jyväskylä (Finalndia), Latvia, Mainz (Germany), Sibiu (Romania), Palermo (Italy) , Adger (Norway) and Valencia, as well as a delegation of students from Ukraine sent by the University of Opoole (Poland). During these days the students were able to exchange several professors from the different Forthem universities such as Dominique Andolfato and Sohie Monnier (Burgundy), Jasmin Fitzpatrick and Hanna Paulke (Mainz), Carla Monteleone and Manoela Patti (Palermo), Abit Hoxa (Adger) and a large group of professors from the University of Valencia such as Juan Rodríguez Teruel, Lidia Valera, Antoni Seguí, Melany Barragán or David Gil. The conference included some guests from other universities such as Nicolò Conti (Sapineza) and Gianluca Ferraro (Portsmouth) and the intervention of Ana Enguídanos from the Relations with the European Union service of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Among the issues discussed in the different round tables are topics such as the political and socioeconomic context in Europe, electoral campaigns and the results of the elections to the European Parliament, the institutional impacts of the electoral results as well as the future of European policies. In addition, practical activities have been carried out in which students have explained the political context in each of their countries. The delegation of Ukrainian students contributed their vision on the effects of the new European political situation on EU-Ukraine relations and on the country's accession process to the European Union. The students also participated in a negotiation simulation at the European Council, led by members of Europe Direct Valencia and were able to attend a guided tour of Les Corts Valencianes (Regional Parliament).
The celebration of these work days has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the General Directorate of Representation before the European Union of the Generalitat Valenciana, of the Jean Monnet chair 'Economic Services of General Interest in the framework of social and territorial cohesion' (SGEI-EU) of the University of Valencia and the presidency and protocol services of Les Corts Valencianes.
