F. Ramón Villaplana introduced a new dataset on direct votes in Spanish political parties

Members of Digipol were invited to a workshop on "Political Parties and Direct Democracy" at the University of Glasgow, organized by professors Sergiu Gherghina of the University of Glasgow and Matt Qvortrup of Coventry University. The event brought together researchers from different nationalities and academic stages with the aim of collaborating on future publications and projects. The workshop covered both the role of political parties in relation to national referendums and the internal consultations that political parties carry out as organizational referendums on different issues.

F. Ramón Villaplana introduced a new database on direct votes in Spanish parties collected with DIGIPOL researchers Oscar Barberà and Adrián Megías. The database  includes internal consultations and primary processes, with more than 500 cases. Among other findings, the data shows a clear trend towards the digitalization of internal democracy processes in Spanish political parties, as well as a greater frequency in their celebration since 2010.
