The workshop “Party Digital Innovations: A trade-off between technology and democracy? Lessons learned and good practices” (AORG/2021/70) is conceived as a space for meeting and learning between academics and various interest groups (political parties, think tanks, watchdogs). We believe it is important to point out the not strictly academic dimension of this project. The objective is not only to produce comparative and first-level knowledge about the different digital innovation processes of the parties, but also to try to develop possible future recommendations and, eventually, jointly promote future research actions. In its most academic dimension, the Workshop is conceived as a meeting promoted by the academic network Digital Parties Research Network where various research projects and academics interested in the study of the digitalization of political parties come together from various points of view. Some of the most relevant are, for example: the DIPART project “Digital Parties Research in revolutionary times” directed by Professor Isabell Borucki and funded by the German government, which focuses on analyzing changes in organization, internal participation, and communication. external party in Germany; the ONPARTDEL project “The new online public sphere in the deliberative system” directed by professors Rosa Borge and Joan Balcells and funded by the Spanish government that focuses on deliberative practices through digital technologies.
