The engineering qualifications and specialisations of the University of Valencia are brought together in the School of Engineering (ETSE-UV), located on the Burjassot-Paterna campus.

The School of Engineering teaches seven undergraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area.

The School of Engineering also offers various official master’s degree programmes as well as UV-specific degree programmes of professional specialisation in various engineering fields.

This establishment is the result of the University of Valencia’s long history and experience in the scientific-technical field. The year 1949 brought about the start of chemical engineering in Valencia when the position of Chair of Technical Chemistry in the University of Valencia was created. This set into motion a series of techniques and lines of research and created a team of researchers to develop them. Years later, another group of professors undertook a second line of engineering work, based on the technological applications of physics in the areas of electronics and computing.

In the 1976-77 academic year, specialisation in Industrial Chemistry began to be taught as part of the Chemical Sciences degree programme, as did specialisation in Electricity, Electronics and Computing in the Physical Sciences degree programme. In those years, the teams of professors continued to increase, with increased research activity and a significant reception from students who were attracted by the combination of scientific knowledge and technological application at a time when these disciplines were flourishing.

In 1993, with the reform to the curriculum brought about by the University Reform Law, the aforementioned specialisations became complete engineering degree courses, where professionals are trained and provided with the combination of scientific and technological knowledge along with the methodology to apply it. This can be used to solve problems or satisfy requirements in the aforementioned branches of computer engineering, electronic engineering and chemical engineering, as well as in some of specialisations of technical telecommunications engineering.  Since then, these degree courses have achieved a place among the best programmes for the rate of graduate employment and the least time needed to find employment related to the completed course of study.

Finally, in the year 2003, the engineering studies and departments that had until then been located in the faculties of physics and chemistry, came to be organised in the School of Engineering. This was created to better organise, unite and plan studies and research in the areas of engineering in which we are experts.

In the field of research, various research groups are established in the departments of the School of Engineering, such as Computing, Electronic Engineering and Chemical Engineering. It also has close relationships with research institutions, such as the Robotics Institute and the ITC Programme, and important applied research projects, as well as holding contracts and agreements with companies and institutions within the sphere of engineering.
