The COSiDES research group is based on deconstructing the body as an anatomical-physiological entity to understand it as a social entity. Thus, the body is studied as a culturally ascribed social field in which several social markers and processes coexist, overlap and often contradict each other. We are a research group that conducts critical sociological research using social science methodologies.
We are particularly interested in the processes of the construction of subjectivities as they relate to identity categories (gender, age, sexuality, racialisation...), processes that we understand as inherently relational, cultural and non-definitive. Our analyses have a multilevel coverage, from the micro level of experiences to the mid-level in terms of the articulation of narratives by institutions and other social actors to the macro level of exploring social orders and public policies (education, migration, health...) and their impact on the configuration of bodies and identities.
We adopt an intersectional perspective that pays close attention to conflict, dissent, resistance and the creative dynamics of bodies and subjectivities.
