University botany classes also took place in the Botanical Garden until the end of the 19th century.
The tropical glasshouse is a remarkable construction in the garden. It was made from iron and glass
in 1860 by Valencian architect Sebastián Monleón, who also designed the bullring in the city of Valencia. Also noteworthy is the latticework shed, a metallic structure supported by thick pilasters made of flat brick with
24-metre arches that are not supported on any auxiliary element, reaching a
height of 12 metres. This structure
covers a surface area of 560 square metres whose rails, pilasters and arches are decorated with zinc repoussé palmettes and vases designed in
Neo-Grec style.
