Small Prey, Big Insights: Unraveling their role in Archaeology
Face-to-face

International congress on small dams in archaeological, ethnographic and taphonomic contexts.

On 29, 30 and 31 October 2025, the 'Small Prey, Big Insights: Unravelling their Role in Archaeology' congress will take place. This international congress is organised by the Departament de Prehistòria, Arqueologia i Història Antiga of the Universitat de València in collaboration with the Museu de Prehistòria of València, the Universidad de La Laguna and the ICArEHB (Portugal). It is funded by Generalitat Valencian and the Facultat de Geografia i Història of the Universitat de València.

The congress will present the latest research on the relationships between Pleistocene human groups and small animals, such as rabbits, fish, molluscs, reptiles, birds, and small carnivores. The ultimate goal is to create an interdisciplinary space for debate that highlights the role of these animal species in the archaeological record. The congress will feature oral presentations in a hybrid format, a poster session, and a roundtable discussion. Participants will include researchers from over a dozen countries, addressing diverse methodological approaches such as taphonomic, experimental and ethnographic studies.
