FORTHEM Queer Life Project - Online info event for students

Want to make queer lives and history more visible?

Join our “Queer Life” project!

Questions about identity, gender, sexual orientation, and what society calls 'cultural norms' are currently hot topics worldwide. But the struggles of queer people are not a recent issue – they had to navigate between discrimination and empowerment long before the word queer was even established in this context. Still, many of their stories remain untold.

The Career Service of JGU and the Haus des Erinnerns (German for ‘House of Remembrance’) want to change that. We are looking for motivated students from all disciplines and study programmes to join our international and interdisciplinary project “Queer Life”. Together, we want to uncover hidden histories of queer people from your region and create and implement a workshop that helps educate audiences about their lives and struggles and share these ‘untold’ or ‘forgotten’ stories.

Why join?

  • Research queer lives in your region and compare findings internationally.
  • Shape a workshop from concept to delivery and help educate audiences.
  • Gain or enhance important skills in various fields, such as project management, research, communication, and presentation.
  • Volunteer for a meaningful cause and receive a certificate documenting your work.
  • Meet and connect with international students while improving your English skills.
  • Spend a wonderful week in Mainz, Germany.

The project runs from October 2025 to April 2026 and is a mix of online/remote work and an on-site project week in Mainz from 20 to 24 April 2026.

It is open to all students of the FORTHEM Alliance. Participation is free of charge and UV can provide financial support for the trip to Mainz.

Interested?

  1. Join our non-binding online info event on September 16, 2025, 15:00 to learn more about the project and how to get involved and to ask all your questions. It is not mandatory to join the info event to participate in the project - but highly recommended.
  2. After the online info event: The information about the application procedure to participate in the project and the financial support granted to UV participants will be published.

We look forward to your ideas and participation!
