The first edition of Democracy Week at the UV brings together students, professors and researchers from UV and abroad.

On Friday 9 May, coinciding with Europe Day, the Universitat de València and the Lab Digital Transformation celebrated Democracy Week, an event promoted by the University of Agder. Other events were also held on these days at the universities of Burgundy and Jyväskylä, partners of the FORTHEM University Alliance

The date, 9 May, marks the anniversary of the ‘Schuman Declaration’, a historic proposal presented in 1950 by Robert Schuman, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, which laid the foundations for European cooperation. At the Universitat de València, we take the occasion to reflect on and debate the difficulties facing democracy today.

Throughout history, democracy has proven to be an engine of progress, stability and respect for human rights. Today, however, this valuable achievement is under the shadow of growing and multifaceted risks. These are not distant or abstract threats, but tangible challenges that erode the foundations of our institutions.

The day was a great success, bringing together students, professors and researchers from home and abroad. It was organised by University of Valencia professors Melany Barragán, coordinator of the Political Science Unit, Oscar Barberà, coordinator of the Digital Transformation Lab, and Irene Luján, PhD student at the Faculty of Law.
