The Cinema Club of the Universitat de València presents “Terror a la Nau”, a cycle of projections focused on the horror genre. With a total of seven sessions presented by specialists, the entrance is free until full capacity.
“Terror a la Nau” is the new winter cycle of the Cinema Club, a proposal dedicated to the horror genre that will bring together seven projections at La Nau Cultural Centre between the 23 February to 4 March. The initiative started with the consideration of horror as a style, context and look that maintains its validity to explore the audience’s fears. This way, the cycle gathers key titles in its first edition to re-discover and review the genre.
The programme combines reference title and more recent works that enable the tour through different aesthetics, themes, and narrative ways of cinematographic horror. The sessions will have a presentation carried out by the specialised university teaching staff, that will provide context and reading keys about the programmed works. The films are projected in their original version with Spanish subtitles, except for the opening and closing session, that will have Valencian subtitles thanks to the collaboration of the Languages Policy Service from the UV.
The cycle will take place on Monday, 23 February with La matanza de Texas by Tobe Hooper (1974), milestone of modern horror that follows a group of students trapped in a hostile rural environment. It will have the presentation of Silvia Guillamón. On 24 February it will be the turn of It Follows, by David Robert Mitchell (2014), presented by Jordi Revert. It consists of a contemporary approximation to psychological horror built through pursuit and invisible threat.
The programme also includes The Blair Witch Project, by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez (1999), key piece of the fake horror documentary. It will be projected on Wednesday, 25 February, with the explanation of Luis Pérez Ochando. The 26 February, the first week of the cycle Let sleeping corpses lie, by Jorge Grau (1974) will be finished. Rubén Higueras will present this production filmed in England, which links horror with science and environmental pollution.
“Terror a la Nau” continues in the month of March, on Monday, 2 with Raw by Julia Ducournau (2016), with the introduction of Claudia Alonso. The film tells the transformation and identity discovery in a body horror code. Proposals will be completed on Tuesday, 3 with The Innocents (Jack Clayton, 1961), an adaptation by Henry James that explores the ambiguity between fantasy and reality, which will be presented by Ignacio Ramos. On Wednesday, 4 March, finishing the cycle, we will have The Addiction, by Abel Ferrara (1995), a philosophical reading of vampirism set in the contemporary urban context, that will have the presentation of Adela Cortijo.
With this new cinema cycle in La Nau, that will be lifelong, the Club reinforces its thematic programme and offers a space of review and debate around one of the most influential and versatile genres of cinema history, completing with this winter activity the summer cycle of “Cinema Nights”.
The sessions will take place at La Nau Cultural Centre (c/ Universitat, 2), at 7:00pm. The entrance is free with limited capacity.
